FTWM--if your DC is babysat by family...
...while you work, did you let them know you were TTC? Did you ask them if they would be ok watching another child?

FTWM--if your DC is babysat by family...
i am a FTWM and we do a combo of family watching DS 3 days a week and daycare 2 days a week. i think if you are relaying on family for daycare, then you should at least have a convo with them to see if they would be up for watching the older child and a baby. if you have other options for 1 or both and are flexible with it, i don't think you need to necessarily talk about it.
my family WANTS me to have another child so they are on board with watching both if/when the time comes.

We didn't have to.... my mil made it clear that she wouldn't be able to handle watching another child.
But yes I think it's important to discuss it. Not the actual TTCing but more a vague hypothetical "if we were to have another child, ...."

My mom watches DS right now. She's been watching him and my niece since they were both babies (they are 2.5).
She has already told both me and my brother that she can't watch any other babies, so we better have a plan on who will be watching any sibilings.

I'm afraid my MIL will say the same--but I think I'm more afraid she'd prefer to keep watching 2 yr. DD and have me put the newborn in daycare; while I'd prefer the opposite.

We did not tell ILs. My FIL watches DS one day and my MIL watches DS one day and he is in daycare 3 days.
We would probably put DS in full time and a new baby in the PT schedule that current DS has now.
2 kids would probably be too much for them.

I'd prefer the opposite too. For me, I'd want to know so I could plan ahead. Whether it's starting to save extra money for childcare costs, or considering a part time work scheule, or whatever. I'd prefer to have more time than less time to pull together a plan. Lord knows I was useless with decisionmaking while pregnant!

My Mom wouldn't say no, but I think she has done enough already. Plus my Dad is retiring next year so I am sure they want some freedom and not to be bogged down with childcare. They know we would like #2 and are trying but I already told DH we have to come up with a Plan B if/when #2 ever gets here. Most likely I will have to quit and find a job with evening hours and a shorter commute. I just can't do the day care thing. If push came to shove though, they would totally watch another kid. Which is why I  them so much!

I didnt say anything but I just made sure that I could put DD in daycare if my mom felt like it was too much. I also wanted DD to be in PreK to give her a break. Luckily, my mom is excited to watch both of them.

We knew inlaws couldn't manage 2 kids ( the way we would want ). It's too much for them, we didn't want the kids to lose out. I end up staying home when we decided to TTC , we didn't discuss because of course they would say they could handle it.

We didn't but only because we always felt that watching 2 would be too much for MIL (shoot, it's too much for me sometimes  ) so there was never any thought that she would watch both. My LOs are just under 2.5 years apart. My plan was to stay home until DS was 6 mos and then I was going to send DD to a full day nursery school program. However, due to Hurricane Sandy my plans had to change and I ended up being home for a year. So now my MIL watches DS while my DD is in school. She has watched both of them when DD is sick though and can't go to school. I usually cut my day a little short on those days so she doesn't have them both all day but she has no issue watching them both (or so she insists, lol).
