Bi/Multi Lingual Families

Just looking to get ideas of how you integrate more than one language in your home... Does one parent/caretaker speak exclusively in one language and the other in another language? Do you mix languages?

I tend to mix languages when I am speaking. Or I will repeat one word in English a few times then say it in the second language. I get hung up most with picture books though bc I feel like its more confusing to go back and forth.

Just looking for suggestions and peoples experiences on the subject.

we are not doing so well since dh doesnt exculsively talk to them in spanish (that was my ideal) and i only incorporate a few words/phrases a day.
i play and sing a ton of spanish music and we have a few books and are working on getting more.

Bi/Multi Lingual Families

My sister's family is Bilingual. Her MIL only speaks Spanish and watches her son a few days a week. Sis only speaks English and her DH speaks both.

I mix languages (3 of them). Sometimes its always English, otherwise its the other and English mixed in. DD also watches native cartoons and listens to our native music so she gets it I think. DH only speaks English, so he that's what he does.

And with picture books, and colors I stick with English only because I want her to "know" them while in school. But other than that.. everything is a mix.. and DD understands all three
