The issues with working from home
I work part time from home. I do like my job a lot, but the point of working from home is bc I have 2 LO's. The office is an hour and a half away so I have only gone there twice since I started in December.
There are lots of perks with my job bc I work for the PGA and US Open for golf. My boss calls yesterday and says I can come to the US Open whenever. It's like he forgets I have kids. Not that I expect him to know everything about my life, but it seems like everyone I work with is always traveling and on the road. Mostly young guys. It's like tough for him to understand telling me to drive an hour and a half to PA to the US Open is not that simple. I need a weeks notice or so. Ugh!
Not complaining, but I hate turning things down. I just heard he drove home to N Jersey to see his daughter in the prom dress only to turn back to go to PA again.

Sucks! Maybe you should remind him that you need more notice so you can line up child care...
But look at the bright side - at least you're working from home. I'd KILL for a job that would allow for me to work from home 100% of the time. Thankfully my job is a 45 minute commute from home - but still - it is hard!
ETA: And I didn't mean that as a one-upper kind of comment. I know being a working mom is hard for EVERY situation!!!!

Re: The issues with working from home
Believe me I have told him. I even give him days that work better for us. I feel like noone else that works for the company has a life. LOL They just get up and go. Of course it's mostly men. Yes, I can't complain too much bc I do have a job and able to work from home. Not so easy, but it's nice to be with the boys.

Yes and it's not just working from home. It's been a working MOM period. My boss is constantly out- almost every night. This event, that event, or just drinks with co-workers. Then the traveling. He doesn't get that I can't be out every night with him- or even every week. And travel- forget it! It's so hard. He says- well I have kids too! Yes, but your kids are much older than mine and your wife is a SAHM so she handles EVERYTHING!
I so get what you're saying!

I agree-some people just don't understand that we just can't pick up and go!

Thank you ladies! That's exactly my point. No wining and dining when you are a mom of little ones especially. Just can't get up and go. Not leaving locking up a pet. LOL

LOL men ! I work from home too so I can understand that in general sometimes you just need notice before you can do any of the things people do w out kids or that have someone on notice for babysitting. It's awesome though to work from home that is for sure. We don't miss a thing =).
