Solid food???

When did your baby start solid food? My DD is 4 months tomorrow and the doctor said I could start. I just don't feel she is ready yet.

Solid food???

I started DD with very soupy cereal at around 4-5 months, I think. She wasn't ready, so I waited a month and tried again.

Re: Solid food???

We waited til 5.5 mo. I knew they were ready when they were watching us eat and when I gave DD tylenol once and she LOVED it. I was going to wait til 6 mo, but didn't want to hold them back if they wanted it. They love food now.

Despite what the Dr says, go with your gut. If you don't feel your DD is ready, don't start yet. Our Dr gave us the go ahead at DD's 4mo apt and I absolutely knew she wasn't ready. Only in the last week or so do I feel that she is actually ready to start solids and she'll be 6mo on Saturday. You know your kid best, you'll know when to start!

Re: Solid food???

I started with fresh avocado 1 week shy of 4 months. DS did great with it, he was definitely ready and showed interest when we were eating.

Four 1/2 months. Little by little. My DS had some reactions to some so we just watched what did it and didn't repeat.

Re: Solid food???

Start your child on solids when YOU and your child are ready, not what the doc says. Look for signs of interest, etc.

Our ped also said we could start experimenting with rice cereal at 4 mos. Instead, we waited until 5 1/2 mos and started DD on avocado and veggie purees (skipping cereals altogether).

I started at 4 months, but felt he was ready. He would stare at us eating, could hold his head up and turn his head to refuse food.

If you don't think your LO is ready then just wait. Its suppose to be a fun experience, plus they aren't eating solids for the nutrition. Its just practice.

Re: Solid food???

Started dd at 3 1/2 with cereal, 5 with veggies. I plan on waiting a little long with this dc, maybe 6 months, depending.

Re: Solid food???

5 months... Oatmeal. 6 months we were doing purées. By 7 months, she was eating table food. Every kid is different. Gauge it by how they take to it. My dd wanted nothing to do with purées which is why we moved onto table foods rather quickly.
