question for moms that pump...

how can i get more milk??
dd is 3.5 months old and i just returned to work 2 weeks ago. At daycare she takes 3 bottles a day - a total of 14 ounces.
i am pumping 3 times a day at work (every 3 hours) and am only getting between 10-12 ounces a day.
is there anything i can do to help at least cover her bottles? what happens when she starts taking more then that??
part of me feels like just giving up the breast feeding now
ive tried oatmeal (but i really just dont like the taste of it), i snack on carrots and hummus throughout the day and i also drink between 8-10 cups of water just at work alone.
im feeling frustrated
any tips?

8-10 ounces of water is nothing--do you mean 8-10 glasses?? You should be drinking 64++ ounces a day.

Also are you eating good meals--breakfast, lunch, and dinner? Make sure you're getting enough calories. Also you can try to drink some More Milk Plus tea, or take a fenugreek supplement.

You're doing a great job--is there any way you can throw in a night/early morning pump to catch up on those last few ounces? Or maybe pump a few times over the weekend?

The good news is once you start solids at about 6 months, they sometimes will drink a little less since they get calories elsewhere. So this is only temporary!

i will try the fenugreek...i forgot i have some of that at home already from when dd was first born it seemed to help.

i def cant squeeze in an early morning pump...i feed her between 6-7am and then start my every 3 hours routine at work but can try pumping after the evening feedings.

i am so glad you mentioned she may eat less when she starts solids...i didnt even think of that and now at least i will try to continue pumping until then

LOL no problem! I understand!!

I would keep at it...I had to schedule a middle of the night pump which sucked, but it helped me get a few more months of breastfeeding in.

oatmeal has helped me increase my production. Your body will also adjust to how much LO needs. My supply increased as DD started eating more. Hope this helps...you are doing great!

oatmeal and gatorade. I try to drink 1 gatorade per day and it has helped.I've used more milk plus pills and they work. also I power pump to help boost my supply (pump for an hour total but 10 minutes on/10 minutes off). you can also try replacing the white membranes

More Milk Plus really helped me whenever my supply would dip. Also do breast compressions while you are pumping.

The only thing I would add to the advice from the pp's is to relax as much as possible! If you are relaxed, you will let down easier and get more milk. Try reading or watching something comforting, and have a pic of your LO handy. GL!

i took up to 9 fenugreek supplements a day. it wasn't a huge increase in supply, but i was definitely making more.

Mother's Milk Tea boosted my production 30%....

I also found I needed to pump in the morning before the first nursing session - and that's when I would get the most milk for the daytime bottles.

Remind yourself to relax and rest as much as you can because stressing about making the milk makes you make less. Much easier said than done though.

Re: question for moms that pump...

Two small ideas... increase your pumping time by five minutes to let your body know there is more demand. You can try pumping for a few minutes after you nurse as well. Also, try looking at pictures of your LO as you pump. Sometimes just actively thinking about them will help with your let down. Try to relax and just just focus on providing for them.

It sounds like you're determined. Best of luck!
