1st birthday etiquette

is it ok for the RSVP date to be 1 month in advance? say the party is sep 1st... to make the rsvp date aug 1st? how many people coming makes a big difference to us in many ways and we could expect as little as 20 to as many as 120 people so we really want to know and then i need to time to get everything together once we know. just wanted to see if this was ok

ETA: if they don't rsvp, are they usually considered a no then? or do those people usually show up?

I don't know about your friends and family but mine are horrible with rsvping. A month might be too far in advance for some people. And never assume nos.

Re: 1st birthday etiquette

i think a month is a bit too long. we got an invite for july abot a month ago and the rsvp date is still only 2 weeks before the event. i would do 2 and a half weeks at most. i always do 2 weeks in advance just bc i like to be prepared and i always end up having to call and follow up anyway

i think it is too long bc people will say yes then forget they did or something will come up in that time frame

I think 3 weeks is ok, but anything longer seems excessive.

Our families are notorious for not RSVP'ing. So I have to give myself a little time to chase them down. DS birthday party is on August 17th and I put the RSVP for August 1st.

I think a month is a lot. I did 2 weeks, but wish I did 3 to chase down the non-responders.

RSVPs ... why are they so challenging for people?! Chat Icon

Anyway - I think a month is a little extreme ... but you can prob get away with 3 weeks.

3 weeks is better if you can swing it.

You can prob do 3 weeks. I've given up on RSVPs though. I just invite who I want to come, put regrets only and plan stuff that won't break the bank if people don't show. GL!!

Re: 1st birthday etiquette

I think a month is a bit early. It also depends on who you are inviting.

Some people (like us) consider 1st birthdays to be a big event. Others may roll their eyes that you need so much advance notice for a child's birthday.

I would do 3 weeks as suggested. Maybe send a text with a save the date a few weeks before that. A relative recently did that and got lots of rsvps right away by text and the invite came a few days later. At least it would give you some idea since you have a big range of expectations.
