Tell me if this is abnoxious
DD' first birthday party is Saturday and we are having it outdoors. We have a video montage of her first year and it came out really nice. It's about 9 min long and DH and I want to share it.
I suggessted calling everyone in the house to watch it but my parents dont like that idea. WDYT?

I would just have it playing over and over on a laptop somewhere for your guests to watch throughout the party.

Another possible option can you have it on continous play that way people can come and go and see it when they want instead of everyone in the house at the same time.

I'd do the same - just have it continuously playing... Pass the word. People will watch.

I would not stop the party for everyone to watch. 9 mins is long IMO.

We went to a milestone birthday party last summer at someone's house and this is what they did. I think everyone got to see it as they passed in and out of the house.

Personally I don't see anything wrong with people coming in for 9 min to watch something. It's just like any other activity at a party you stop what you are doing and go participate
Also is the party exclusively outside, even at my outdoor parties everyone is constantly roaming in and out maybe that's why I don't see the big deal

9 minutes is REALLY long for a video montage. Cut it to 3 minutes or have it on a loop for people to watch at their leisure.

I agree, I would probably  a bit. IMO a montage is for the child's parents and very close family.

I agree with the others who said that 9 minutes is long. As much as we like to think that others find our children as wonderful, gorgeous, and amazing as we do, the reality is that, aside from family, few people want to sit through a 9 minute montage of someone's child. I wouldn't tell everyone to come inside to watch.

ITA. I wouldn't make a bit thing out of it, I'd just keep it looping somewhere on the side so they can watch if they want.

lots of parties have planned activities. even activities people don't enjoy. this groups seems to not enjoy montage videos but i don't think 9 minutes is long in the grand scheme of the party. and my in-laws love pictures and videos they go crazy for that stuff!! so they would be into it. just announce what it is up front so people can then decide whether or not they want to go inside and join you. expect some people to come in and enjoy it and others to stay outside and mingle.

I LOVE that kind of stuff... But I do think 9 minutes is a littke long to stop the whole party for. I think you might get some after about 3/4 minutes from people who aren't into that kind of stuff.
I would either shorten it or, just have it on a loop on a laptop somewhere, and let people know. People will see it. And either way it's still nice to have it for the kids to watch when they get older.

I agree with suggestions about keeping it running in the background. Nine minutes is long for a photo montage, and honestly, not everyone is as into sitting and looking at pictures of our kids as we are.
Another idea is if you have a TV that you can connect your laptop to, you can have it playing on the TV in the background. That way it's more noticeable when people are walking in and out. Now that you mentioned it, I might set up a slideshow doing the same for my DD's party!

We did a slideshow, but like others have suggested, we had it on a constant loop throughout the party.

We put together a video as well of the twins. Starting from their nicu journey. We had an outdoor party as well. We had the video playing on the TV in the living room, knowing that people would be going past it to use the restroom. That way it gave people a more mellow location to watch and the option.

Id have it playing somewhere guest will pass by when going in to use the bathroom or something. Laptop on the kitchen or if they will pass the living room. That way they can sit for 9 mins if they want or watch for a few then move on and not feel obligated to sit there because they were called in to do so.
