seeing dentist for the first time
DD will be 3 this summer. Should I make an appt to see a dentist? Is this the age to make their first appt?

Yup. Make an appt and let them know it's the first visit.

Re: seeing dentist for the first time
DS is 2.5, and we just took him for the first time a couple weeks ago. DH and i both had back to back appointments for cleanings, so we just asked our dentist if she could look at DSs teeth in between our appointments. He did great!! when DH was done, the dentist just had DS lay on top of him in the chair. I think that was good because it made the chair less scary for him since it was his first visit, she didn't do a cleaning... she just counted his teeth and checked for any cavities.

Is it true that pediatric dentists don't take insurance? And can a 2 1/2 year old go to a regular dentist and would a regular dentist take insurance for a toddler? We're at that point where I need to take them for their first appointments but I'm not sure if I should see a pediatric dentist or just take then to my dentist.

Re: seeing dentist for the first time
We took DS at 3 years old and he did great. We chose a pediatric dentist for his first visit, they just did a cleaning, no xrays. For his second visit, we are going to take him to our family dentist.
The pediatric dentist we went to took our insurance. It was Kidssmiles in Merrick (they have other locations). We have Delta Dental.
A regular dentist will take your insurance for a toddler, you just have to make sure the dentist is comfortable with kids. Our dentist said he prefers not to see then before 3 because they won't sit and open their mouths for him.
