How is your Ped with your DC?
Do they explain what they are doing as they do the exam? Do they talk over your DC? (If your DC is a toddler?) I know they are busy people, but I am just trying to get an idea of what the norm is. We may be looking to change.

Re: How is your Ped with your DC?
My pediatrician is very thorough and does explain what shes doing. My DD (14 mos) is very comfortable with her and we love her! It was very important to us for her dr to e caring.

Re: How is your Ped with your DC?
We just switched, and have only seen him once, but he explained everything before he did it, to me and my almost 2 year old. If she was talking he listened - not that she says that much. He definitely treated her like person though.
I wish I switched sooner, I say if your gut is telling you it's not the right dr for you then follow your instinct.

Re: How is your Ped with your DC?
My ped talks to my kids. There is a group and all of the doctors treat my kids age appropriately by speaking to them. They ask questions directly to my children and have done so since my kids could respond to questions (about a year old). They get told if something like a shot will hurt too.

Same, she is so affectionate with them and plays around the whole time. I'm often the one talking over my kids

Re: How is your Ped with your DC?
My ped is great with my girls. As babies she held them. Spent time getting to know my girls. Now as a toddler she explains everything to my oldest dd. for example my dd was just there for an ear check. She told her she was going to take a quick. Look inside her ear to make sure the boos boos were gone. Same things with shots she tells my dd there will be a quick pinch. My girls love their Dr. And that is important to us.

Re: How is your Ped with your DC?
Our Ped, Dr. Halegoua is wonderful with our DS. When he's with our son you'd think he was part of our family. He explains what he's doing during the exam, answers all of our questions no matter how silly they are with honest answers. He is great with our son, hugs, listens to him. My son loves Dr. Jason. After his appt he'll talk about him for days. Now that he doesn't have as many well care visits I think he misses him!

Re: How is your Ped with your DC?
Thanks all. I have confidence in our ped's ability as a doc, but it sounds like we need to find someone who is a better fit for us. Unlike some kids, DS is great about going to the doctor, but I feel like a few more visits like the last one and he won't be so thrilled. We listen to what he says at home (no matter how silly), and treat him with respect, so I feel a Dr. should treat him the same way. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't being unrealistic in my expectations. Glad so many have docs they love.

Re: How is your Ped with your DC?
We love our pediatrician, Dr Siev. He always starts out by talking to both my kids, slapping them five, patting them on the back, explaining what's going on etc. the 3 yr old and even the baby. My 3 yr old loves him. We are very happy with how he treats our kids. If you don't like how your doc is interacting with your DS, I would look around for someone else.

Re: How is your Ped with your DC?
He is awesome and so sweet and mild mannered. My DD on the other hand wants no part of him- it's the age. But he is a doll and really tries to put her at ease.
