No ac and babies sleeping

So we don't have ac in our house. I haven't cared much about our second floor getting crazy hot in the summer, but last night I started freaking out bc dd is 8 months, and I'm terrified of SIDS. I had her in just a diaper and the sleeveless halo sleepsack. But the temp in her room was something like 81 degrees! :o we have a fan in her room too.

I dunno what I'm really asking... But should I be worried? I mean, we would really rather not get a window unit, but do you think it's necessary?

Anybody else's DC don't use ac??

I would def use the fan and have her sleep in as little clothes as possible. Are you hot in the house? Because if you are, most likely she is too. What about opening a window??

we do not have an AC in DS's room. Last summer i would put him in a onesie and either shorts or pants, depending on the night, and we had the fan on medium blowing in his room all night. it was pretty comfortable in there for him.

from what I googled it seemed best to keep it under 72. with sids - but they don't specifically say...... a ceiling fan would help keep the air flow going.

I worry about it too. A couple nights ago, she was sweating bc it was hot out, even with the window open. So we decided to put an AC in yesterday for the same reason and keep the room between 68 and 70 degrees.

Our house hit 79 yesterday and we had to put the AC on. Can you put a fan in LO's room? I know it sounds ridiculous but my kids need the AC in order to sleep well. What did kids do 50 years ago without AC? I ask myself that a lot

I would just get a window unit with a thermostat so its not running all the time. No sense in having a miserable hot baby and having to worry about SIDS

We have this problem too - her bedroom is upstairs in our house, and we have a traditional cape - so her ceiling is essentially the roof of the house.

TBH i'd worry more about nap time. We wound up getting her a window unit last summer and it was the best decision ever. We keep it on the economy setting and at 72 degrees. Now I don't worry about the "what if she's too hot" stuff. I know she's fine now.

We actually had to bring it out yesterday. It was 78 in her room when i put her down for nap with ceiling fan on high. Over the course of the next 2 hours, the temp rose to 89 DEGREES And the heat woke her up and she was miserable. Lesson learned. We put the unit in immediately and turned it on for bedtime.

She's a little older than yours (she's 19 months) but she was about the same age last summer, and yes I would do it. I kept her in the thinnest material feetie PJ's with the a/c on the aforementioned settings.

i will be 100% honest. there is NO way I would put grace in a room without AC in the heat of the summer. I know for a fact that it can push 90+ in her room with the windows open in the summer (we live in a 5 level split) and our room and the nursery are on level 5. It gets HOT.

We actually had her AC on last night when we put her down just to cool the room down and then turned it off and opened the windows after the sun was down and the temp had cooled down.

My kids sweat, big time, I just would not be comfortable

Can the baby sleep on the first floor when its hot out? I have DD on the first floor, windows closed for safety, no fan and she was fine last night. Upstairs where we sleep was HOT but she had on long sleeved cotton PJs and did not even wake up sweating according to my mom.

Dd sleeps on the first floor and is also 8 months. I had her in a cotton footie sleep n play with the fan on high and window open and still my monitor said 78 degrees. She slept ok but I told Dh we need to get her an ac

I absolutely would at least always have a fan on in her room... I dunno how you sleep without ac

We got a super cheap window unit. Her room is tiny so we only needed the smallest BTU's they make and it cools the room off super fast.
It was under $100 and we run it before she goes to bed- in an hour the room is super cool and we can shut it before we go to bed for the night.

It was 82 in our upstairs also. We had all the windows open and the ceiling fan on high. Also she was just in a teeshirt and diaper. We are going to look into getting a Window ac cause it gets to hot up there.

I wouldn't even dream of not having AC in DS's room. Babies can't regulate their temperatures like we can.

We left his AC on all of last night to make sure the room was comfortable. Especially now that he STTN, I'm not up every few hours to check the temperature of his room, so I want to be sure it's regulated in the lower 70s.

The summer is just going to get hotter, and I wouldn't want to risk putting my baby's life in danger. It's just so easy to buy an AC.

im buying one for dd room this weekend actually. It gets SOOO hot in our apartment. We had her window open with a fan and I had her in a t shirt and shorts. I almost had her sleep in naked with nothing but a diaper at one point.

We haven't put an AC in DD's room yet, but plan to soon. Last night we had her fan on and dressed her in a thin footie and she was fine. Tonight we'll do the same.

I definitely feel an AC is necessary for the summer though. When the temps hit the 90s (or even the high 80s) it gets very uncomfortable in our house.

We put an a/c in the kids rooms. It just got too hot in the house. My DD would wake up drenched, even with a fan circulating the air. I know I can't tolerate a hot house so I figured if we had an a/c to sleep comfortably so should DD and DS.

It also made me rest easier knowing they weren't in a stuffy, hot room, especially since we always keep their bedroom doors closed.

Sears, Lowes, etc all have small, very inexpensive window units which are really perfect for a kids room. They just need enough air to keep the room comfortable and the smallest a/c has worked fine for us so far.

I know my mom says that all the time! How she had to share a room with 3 other siblings, and no ac! Haha
