"drifting" eye

DD is 4 months old (tomorrow) and since birth, i've noticed her left eye drifts in a bit, usually when she turns her head to look at something. She did also have a bit of nistagmus but that has mostly cleared (a tiny bit of fluttering from time to time).

I mentioned it to the ped today at her 4 mth well visit and the ped said she would like to watch it until 6 months and refer to a ped opth if it does not clear by 6 months when the eye muscles are typically strong enough and should prevent the drifting.

Anyone experience anything similar? What was the game plan? Did your little one need glasses or a patch?

I'm not overly concerned, I had glasses for something similar from 2 years on for a few years and now have perfect vision etc, just wondering what we are up against.

My niece had this and she had to get glasses at age 1. She is perfectly fine and looks super cute in her glasses!

My DD's eye drifted out. At 6 months I took her to a pediatric ophthalmologist. She is now 26 months and it is much better and rarely happens (only when she is super tired or just woke up). The prescription in her eyes are not the same so we are now patching the weaker eye (which is not the eye that drifted out).

I would watch it and then go to a specialist if you are still noticing it at 6 months.

Ask the ped. My husband had this as a child and wore a patch.
