Anyone BF while on the pill?
*** UPDATE AT THE BOTTOM ***
DD is 8 weeks old. After a rocky start, we're pretty good at BFing. At my pp checkup, my obgyn put me on Ortho Tri Cyclen Lo (same as pre-pregnancy).
I asked her how this would effect BM supply and said there would be no issues.
Has anyone been on a combo pill and successfully BF?
***UPDATE***
I called my OB's office and left a message for my doctor. The secretary who returned the message continutes to say that Ortho Tri Cylen is SAFE.
I told her that the packet that comes with the pills says NOT to take during nursing. The woman says she will leave another message with my doctor.
I'm so confused. I'm thinking of talking to the pharmacist who filled my RX.
***2ND UPDATE: ***
I asked the pharmacist who filled the prescription. She said that her computer ws showing that a combo pill was NOT good for nursing. She said to consult DD's ped.
I called the ped's office and they said it was fine but it might decrease my supply (just like my OB said).

Anyone BF while on the pill?
Im surprised she put you on ortho lo while bfing. Not sure ortho lo is one of the recommended bcps for nursing moms. Check kellymom:

Thanks for your input. I've been on Ortho since Sunday (6 days) and today noticed a huge drop in supply.

Stop taking it, use condoms this weekend, and call your doc on monday for a minipill rx. Combo pills will permanently affect your supply.

Anyone BF while on the pill?
OMG I would stop taking it right away, my doc told me you can only take the minipill while breastfeeding. I will warn you however, I hated the minipill because I was spotting throughout the month which was super annoying. I just stopped using it and was very careful!

Like others have said, standard. BCP will dry up your supply so I would stop it immediately if you want to BF. I'm shocked that your OB wouldn't know better!

I BF my 1st for 14 months, and I am currently BF'ing my 8 week old. My doctor didn't put me on anything, we just used condoms and kept track of my cycle. I would stop taking it right away and call your doctor tomorrow.

Thanks for all the feedback. I've used my OB for over 8 years. I feel very disappointed. Will this permanently effect my supply, even when I stop?

I'm shocked by this! I would call ASAP and also verify if the hormones are secreted in breast milk....I have no idea if they are or not.

You def cannot take ortho tri cyclen lo! I thought that it was bc of the hormones the baby will get though? I took the mini pill while breastfeeding and it basically destroyed my supply. My dr said it shouldnt effect it but i basically dried up after a week of taking it and couldnt get my supply back up. After researching it online it said it was rare that that happens but it can . This time around - we'll just use condoms

Ya know, my OB also told me a combo pill would befine while BFing. He said "things have changed" and there's such small amounts of estrogen in them now that it's totally fine yada yada. I was still hesitant though so I opted for the mini pill.

You are your own advocate, and you have to trust yourself. If you don't think its safe--STOP taking it...use another form of birth control...and tell your OB you want the mini pill.

Use your own judgment! You said yourself that you have been on it 6 (now 8) days and noticed a huge drop in supply. Doctors don't know everything, it's very important to keep that in mind. I would absolutely find a new OB, that is unacceptable.

This! When i had the twins, my OB would not put me on any BC pills with estrogen. I believe he said it could dry up my milk supply. He put me on the mini pill wich is a progesterone only pill. I would ask to be put on the mini pill quite honestly.
