First birthday party alcohol?
If its at a catering hall should you have open bar or beer/wine?
If at a hall where we just bring our own catering in we would probably just bring beer.

A catering hall will usually include open bar in the rpricing (unless you are out of NY area)
If you have it at a place where you bring your own food and drinks I would def have beer and wine. Even when I have a party in my house I at least have beer and wine.

They have an option of beer/wine or open bar but I feel like open bar is a bit much for a baby's birthday party. And honestly I'd rather use the extra $ for my kids, not open bar. But dh is saying open bar. Ironically he's complaining about this party costing so much lol. Go figure.

I think beer and wine is fine. Most places I looked at offered just that and then you could up the package to include open bar. I think just the beer and wine is fine.

we did beer/wine package for their christening and there was a cash bar in a completely separate room. omg are you planning their first birthdays alreadY!??!

Beer and wine would be fine. We did that for my twins' 1st birthday and christening and there was a cash bar if anyone wanted a mixed drink. Everyone seemed pretty happy with just the beer and wine.

Beer and wine is fine. Or possibly just run a tab for the mixed drinks. That's what most of my friends do.

i think it depends on your guest list.
for DS's 1st, we knew we had to have an open bar. (can't have a party that large full of Eastern Europeans and not serve them vodka!) Most catering halls had birthday specials which included beer and wine only. They looked at us as if we were irresponsible parents when we insisted on an open bar.

Yes! they are 7 mo already!! We are looking at places because we want a specific date. And we are just trying to see what type of place.

I just asked DH becuase I forgot exactly what we did. I know we had wine and beer but I didn't know that they told the people who asked for mixed drinks no.  We definitely didn't tell them to say that! It was at a country club from 12-4. For our next 1st bday party we'll do wine and beer then run a tab if people really need hard liquor on a Sunday afternoon.

For our catering hall....we asked to keep a bar tab....it was just easier that way for my DS 1st birthday!

In order to get through any child's party booze is a must.
Having said that beer and wine is just fine. No need for full bar.

I'm sure you know your crowd, and just choose what will work for them. I had different options for past parties I've planned- wine on table only, or I had the waiters only offer house wine and draft beer. If someone wanted something that wasn't offered, they could have it, and we ran up a tab, but I had very few people do that.
Sometimes, the tab causes trouble though. If one person puts a cosmo or margarita on the tab and other people see it, it spreads like a virus, lol. Then all of a sudden, there is an $800 tab. Whoops!
