If you worked 25 hours a week, how would you make your schedule?
Our office moved from being about 10 minutes from my house to 30 minutes (no traffic). My commute can easily be 1 hour. Because of this, it triggered a talk about schedule. My boss asked me what I wanted and I said I'd love to work about 25 hours a week. To my surprise, he said yes. I will be taking a small pay cut and be significantly happier. He is a new father and seemed quite sympathetic. His wife is returning to work from maternity leave and is also going to work a modified schedule.
Which schedule would you choose?
A. 3 days a week full time and 2 days off
B. 4 days a week ~6 hours per day and Fridays off
C. 5 days a week 5 hours per day
I am leaning towards B. I'd basically be working what I work now except I'll have every Friday off.

A, I feel like you can accomplish more in 4 days off then you could in 5 shortened days.

I would do B because at least when the kids go to school you can put them on the bus and go to work and come home from work and get them off the bus.

Same - especially since you will be commuting at least an hour each day on top of working...

With the new schedule, I will never drive during rush hour so I should have a 30 min commute, which is still longer than what I prefer. I originally picked this job over another job mainly because of location. Then the office moved!

I'm sorry, I misunderstood, I thought it was 30 minutes each way = 1hr.
I'd still do 3 days.
ETA - Prob Mon, Tues and Thurs.

This is directly dependent on how my job is- I would do option A- I know I would end up working past the hours in B or C so it wouldnt work out for me
But if you can legitimately just work the hours in B- that's a great option too

A! I do it now and I am happy dreading when I have to go back 5 days...
So I work M- W with Thurs and Fri off... however I can change that as I need to.

I think it's great that they are willing to work with you. I would go with a or b depending on what you plan to do with your lo while working. For example my daycare doesn't offer a 3 day a week program for infants therefore I would go with option b. but if daycare wasn't an issue I'd go with option a

Considering my job, I'd do B. I would still have a 3 day weekend every week, and issues that arose during the week can more easily be addressed if you are in the office 4 days a week as opposed to 3. I suppose it depends on your specific job though.
