Annoyed at DH
So my DH dropped the ball. He was supposed to call and make brunch reservations for Mothers Day last Friday. And he forgot, and now they're fully booked. So now I'm stuck hosting. Again. I am so sick of hosting this holiday! I love being with all of the family, but I'm the only mother who gets stuck with all the work!

That stinks Is it definite that you're hosting or can you just do your own thing with quick visits with the rest of the family - at their houses?

Make him clean the house and then have it catered. You can order from lots of places- even panera bread. Make it easy on yourself, and it's almost like going out except you don't even have to leave your house

Re: Annoyed at DH
We have hosted MD for the past 8 years. I swore I wasn't going to do it this year. But somehow, it still became my responsibility to figure out. The first place we wanted has a limited, and not very impressive, menu for MD. So I found this other place, called to make sure they could accommodate 15 people, and then called DH to run it by him. He said it sounded good, he was just going to check with his mom, and take care of it. And here we are. I've basically conceded to the fact I'm hosting again, but I'm going to force myself to tone it down this year and not make extra work for myself. I normally have a ton of different foods, this year I'm gong to stick with the favorites.

Re: Annoyed at DH
I'm going to ask my MIL to make the pasta for me and my SIL is an awesome baker, so she'll bring a dessert. I think I'm going to ask my sister to make a fruit salad and my parents always bring proseco. The rest will be all me. It just frustrates me because I wind up shopping on Friday. Prepping everything on Saturday and then hosting on Sunday. It's just a lot. There's nothing relaxing about Mothers Day.

I am so sorry. I would be annoyed too. I would go to costco and pick up steaks for him to bbq. Get some premade sides and be done with it. Alternatively, call someone and bring food in.

Re: Annoyed at DH
I would make your DH help with preparing for MD and during Mothers Day he should clean up and stuff. It is your day too and that's not fair for you to do all the work. I love get togetherness too. But they are a lot of work.

Annoyed at DH
I feel your pain. We have hosted MD for the last 4 years, my parents, brother, in laws, and both of DH's sister I was ok with it bc until last year I was the only non-mom, but was resentful last year since I felt I should be catered to on that day! We still don't know what we are doing this year though everyone "expects" us to do it. Even though DH helps and even though everyone brings "a" dish, the bulk of the prep, purchase and clean up still falls on the host! and it sucks =) BUt for us it seems its the only way we can all get together, as DH and I are the common denominator. So I may choose to celebrate my "MOthers Day " on an alternate day!

I'm sorry, that stinks. My DH is terrible at remembering to plan things too, unless I'm constantly reminding him (and who wants to have to do that?), so I feel your pain.

See I still wouldn't host it. Sorry, it's a phone call he could have handled. I would simply say call a caterer an have something delivered. Also clean the house as I'm NOT doing anything.

I agree. You had made an agreement to do something different - why should you be stuck hosting?

Ugh sorry... if you are stuck hosting, then I would either make arrangements to have it catered, or ask people to bring things so you're not doing everything yourself.

Re: Annoyed at DH
Definitely get it catered. Especially since you had no intention or plan to host and cook. I'm hosting because I'm the only one willing to do it, and there is no way I'm spending my weekend cooking. We are getting some chafing dishes and a hero from a local pizza place and our parents are bringing wine/dessert..

The house will be clean already because the cleaning lady just came, but he WILL be cleaning up afterwards. And he already told me he'll help with anything he can. So even though I am certainly annoyed to be hosting again, DH does feel badly about it.

He should be doing MOST things. You're a mom too--it is your day! He is perfectly capable of picking up meat to grill and doing the cooking that day.
