parties and overstimulation

How do you deal with the overstimulation in big groups, refusing to nap, crankiness?
I cant not attend the party, nor can we make everyone talk in whispers lol... Yesterday was DH's bday celebration so it wasnt even like we could leave early! They barely napped and whenever they finally fell asleep, one particular family member would stick his head in the crib and holler "awww how cute they finally fell asleep" and wake them up. (this person has been spoken to before about this issue and his general loudness but nothings going to change with that)
Not sure what else I can do.

That's tough. With DD there were a few months that were difficult when she grew out of sleeping anywhere through anything but still needed multiple naps. Once she was down to 1 or 2 naps it got easier again bc I could have her nap before the party and she may or may not nap again after (on the way home).

I would talk to that person again, keep a very close eye on them to keep them from going in the baby's room, and get a white noise machine if you don't already have one. Other than that, I'd just say it gets easier as they get older. Maybe you could put a gate outside the baby's door to keep anyone from going in or if there's a hallway to block anyone from going near the room.

I hate this! This is my issue with Mother's Day. Hopefully they sleep on the way there and back in the car. I'm having my family come for dinner so I can put them down. It's their short nap and complain till bed time lol. If this person is the issue I'd yell at them. Seriously? What jerk wakes poor sleeping babies??

Depending where we are we will either put dd down for a nap in a pack n play in a separate room away from everyone. If we are at a restaurant once she's sleeping I put a thin muslin blanket over the infant carrier so people can't bother her and if she starts to duds she won't be distracted/tempted to wake up to check out her sourroindings

We go without sometimes. DS only takes one nap and we just kind of go with it. He may just go to sleep a bit earlier that night but it doesn't change his overall schedule.
