Best newborn gift you received
What is the best/cutest/most useful gift you received after having a baby?
I need to buy a gift for someone close and am looking for some ideas.

Diapers! I didn't have to buy diapers until DS was 5 months. It was great!

I terms of useful - Diapers are expensive and you can never have enough. Dd loves to be swaddled so the muslin Aden & Anais blankets came in handy and so did the halo swaddle sleep sack (found it lasted longer size wise then just the swaddle from halo) - but every baby is different
I also think things that they may not have registered for...diaper creams, medicines, pacifier holder come in handy...Dh had to run out to get that stuff late one night
In terms of cute (but you have to wait for the baby to e born) we got "my very own name" book from I see me

I love the personalized gifts we got - a picture frame with DS's name and bday on it or blankets with his name and name/bday on it.

LOVE the aden & anais swaddle blankets
I also really loved getting an edible arrangement sent to us! It was so nice to have it in the house during the early newborn stage when it was hard for us to get to the grocery store.

Gift cards were huge! Also someone bought me the monthly stickers to take pictures with and the blocks. That stuff was the cute stuff. In terms of useful gift card cause I ended up needing so many last minute items all the time.

Food! Fresh fruit salad, an edible arrangement, cookie platters. Even simple things like cold cuts and a loaf of bread were a life saver. BRU and Target gift cards were also very useful. Things like picture frames, pedicure gift cards, and albums took a looong time to go to use but they were nice. Also things with DD's name were great since we hadn't announced it before she was born. We got a cute bin with her name on it and some books and toys inside which was adorable.

I will say the best gift is trays of food to keep in the fridge/freezer for when you come home from the hospital. As for a gift - I still love the personalized step stool. Both of my kids still use them at ages 5 and 3. They have a lot of longevity.

I was struggling with BFing so I got as a gift a LC's personal consultation (to my home)
ANY item from this company. My cousin got me a ton of stuff from them and I loved them all...esp this:

Honestly the best gift was from my best friend who came over to watch the baby for 4 hours and told me you look like hell go take a nap lol So I would offer your time.

Most useful was probably gift cards. Several of my friends gave generous gift cards with really cute outfits, stuffed animals or books.
If you are crafty, you could do a huge nice gift basket with items off her registry and add personalized items as well. I always want to do this but don't have the time since I have little kids. I usually buy a useful big ticket item like a car seat or swing.
