Question about bottles at daycare
How long does a bottle of formula (powder and water combined) stay good for?
More info...I breast feed so don't know exactly how much dd eats (it's somewhere between 4 and 5 oz) and she starts daycare next week. I don't want to give too much breast milk to daycare bc it'll have to get thrown out if not used, but I also don't need dd to be hungry. I asked the daycare if I could leave a can of powder and a bottle they can use as needed but I was told no. They said the bottles need to be pre made-they cannot handle the milk/formula. So how do I do it? Give them one spare formula bottle per day they can use as needed and if it gets tossed at the end of the day no big deal...but will it last all day? Or do I give them nursettes to use as needed? Or do I just give 5oz breast milk bottles for all her feedings and don't worry about them throwing out the extra? I'm so confused!

My DD started daycare yesterday and I've been sending her with 6-7 oz. bottles of breast milk. So far she's finished everything I've sent het with. Before she started daycare she was given bottles occasionally by my DH and by my mom so I knew she had no problem drinking 7 ounces.
So long as you're pumping enough I'd rather risk a few ounces being thrown out (until you see how many ounces she'll take) rather than give her formula.

no offense, but I've never heard of a daycare that won't mix formula...
If you think she wont use much, then just get the 2oz nursetts.
otherwise Maybe just mix like 4 oz and have them store in the fridge, they can add 2 oz to a bottle if they need it.. as long as they dont feed with it it lasts up to 24 hours in the fridge.

Mine wouldn't mix formula either. I believe it's a regulation.

It's very common, actually. I've heard from a lot of different people.
To the OP, if possible, sometime before she starts daycare, try having someone give her a bottle of expressed milk in place of a nursing , and pump at that time. This will give you an idea of how much she is drinking per feeding. The pump is not quite as efficient as baby though, so I would probably add on an extra half ounce or an ounce to that to use as a guideline for daycare.
