Newborn congestion

My baby is only 3 weeks and he sounds congested a lot. I brought him to the dr, who said he is not sick. No other explanation was given. I use saline and a humidifier, but it always comes back. He gets very upset when he tries to nurse and can't breathe through his nose. this in turn makes me very upset. Not sure what is happening here.

DS was like that when he was born and it got better with time. It never really seemed to bother him much, but when it did, I just aspirated his nose (saline first).

DD sounded congested alot when she woke up in the morning. She was not stuffed but I just heard gunk in her throat when she would breath. Dr. said it was normal and everything sounded louder to us but it's bc their airways and nose passages are so tiny. I think it was just mucous and totally normal.

It took about 2-3 months and finally stopped.

DS was like that too. They linked it to his milk protein allergy and his reflux. Just keep an eye on him... It did end up going away when we got him on the right formula.. His pedi wasn't concerned but his Pedi GI knew right away what it was...

sometimes its just newborn congestion b/c their nasal passages are so small. It's normal. I wouldn't worry unless he ha other symptoms

I hear you. My DS is going to be 6 months in a couple of days and still has times when he sounds like a little piggy.

He's gotten so much better though. It used to be 24/7 - and like yours, my DS wasn't/isn't sick, just congested. Just keep using the humidifier and saline drops and it will get better over time!

Try the Nosefrida to get the congestion out. I'm sure your son isn't ill, but if it makes it difficult for him to nurse then I would do anything to make things easier for him until it goes away on its own.
