SAHM-Did you sign your DC up for 2 year daycare program?

Everybody keeps asking me if I'm signing my twins up for a 2 year program in Sept.

I'm not sure if it's necessary other then my DS having severe separation anxiety and would like him to get use to being without me for an hour or so.

Also, my twins won't be 2 until the end of Sept, so would they qualify for a two year program.

Where are some good schools in Nassau?

Do you mean a program for 2y olds. I work part time but I did not for me I felt they were too young. If you are concerned about separation I would look for classes where you can leave them for an hour I did this at 21/2 my local kindermusik teacher had one

No, I never sent my DD to any program. I didn't see a need to send her anywhere at that age and I wanted her home with me anyway.

I don't know... I think if they're just gonna turn 2 in September, that might be a little bit young. if you want to get them more "ok" with you leaving, maybe look into some other kind of seperation class, OR try to trade an hour or so a week with another SAHM, or even join a gym with a daycare room and leave them there while you walk on the treadmill for an hour or something...

DS will turn 3 in November, and in September, hes gonna start a nursery school program 2 mornings a week. But hes almost a year older than your two. I just think at 3, they're a little more verbal, a little bit better attention span, and just a little more "ready" for a program like that....

At 2yo we still just did a lot of playdates with friends. At 3, she went to nursery school 3 mornings a week, but I also had a newborn at home.

I did. My son turned 2 mid October. Most go by the school districts cut off which for me was December 1.

I did it for a few reasons. First, I was pregnant so I wanted DS to stay to be able to separate from me. Second, besides a few random library classes we didn't do much else so I wanted him to start socializing with other kids. Third, I felt it could only help him learn and even help with his speech. The first few weeks were tough, he would cry when I left but would quickly calm down they said. Now he walks right in, blows me kids and waves bye. He goes two days a week for two hours a day. Starting next September he will be going the days a week for 2.5 hours a day.

Nursery programs are not regulated by the state unless the program runs full day (more than 4 hours a session I believe) when I was looking at schools I wanted one that was open in the community for numerous years, didn't have a high teacher turnover, did planned lessons and activities with the kids. Had an outdoor play area. Had kids artwork displayed and didn't have plain boring white or gray walls in the classrooms. Obviously price was a factor as well.

Are you talking about school or daycare?

My DS turned 3 right as the school year began so, no, I started him in preschool at 3. We had a day or two of tears and he was totally fine and the separation was easy. He loved school and had no problems transitioning from being with only me all the time to school. When he was 2 we did lots of classes and play dates but, I was always there.

My DD misses the cut off by just a little bit so she was 3 well before she could start preschool. From the time she was 2 she was begging to go to school like her big brother so I enrolled her at 2.5 (actually 2 and 3/4) in an older twos program (mostly kids like her that were almost 3) - 2 days per week for 2 hours. She LOVES it! No separation issues with her at all. On the other days we do lots of play dates and classes together...

Around my area, more people do twos programs than not and many start much earlier than I did - when their child just turns 2. I would say this isn't a one size fits all kind of thing - do what works best for you and your children

ETA: the school cut off in nassau is Dec. 1st so there are many schools that have 2's programs that would fit your DC's age.

I am sending my DS to the Y for 2 days a week 2 1/2 hours long.
He loves to socialize, and i figured this would be a great way to get him out of the house and play with kids his own age.
Plus, i think it will be a great learning experience overall.

My first 2 went to a nursery school program at 2.5 and I just signed up my 3rd for it in September. It is only 2.5 hours a day, 2 days a week.

Yes but bc my ds2 is born at the end of the year we aren't starting him with the group in September but instead waiting for January and he'll jump in.

my older son I put in nursery program for 2 hours a day 3 days a week - it was good because he was super social and had been in daycare and otherwise would be home with just his newborn brothers and the nanny

my twins turn 2 in august and I don't plan on putting them in anything yet. They got to babysitting at my tennis place once a week and we do gymbroee classes. But as for structured school - I don't find it necessary yet - I like doing things with them

the only way they will go to school is if I give up one my nanny because I work part time - I would just put them in daycare those days

I was working pt but at the time I sent my 2 y/o to "school" 3 days a week. It was the best thing I could have ever done. She now loves school because of it. My youngest goes the same program now and loves it too. It took her longer to "warm up" but it's the best thing for her

Yes, my 2 yo goes 3 mornings a week. He loves it now. The first 2 weeks were tough. By the end of the 3 rd week he was very happy at " school". Where in Nassau are you? In my area most of the 2 yo are in programs. Not many kids around

He hated the daycare at lifetime fitness, I could not leave him. I wanted him to have time away from me that was very structured and consistent with the same teachers.

My DS will be 2 in Sept also!
I signed him up for a class in RVC. Its 2 days a week for 2 hrs each.
I will go with him from Sept to Feb-and then he will go by himself.

My DS turns 2 in two weeks. We signed him up for a 2's program in September. T & Th from 9:30-11:45. He is so ready and I think he is going to love it!

My oldest went to a slow separation program but not until he was 3 but only did it for 6 months & then we did a sports program. I felt he needed to be exposed only bc he was in EI for speech but after we saw he did so well, we decided to take him out & let him enjoy being a child. He is going to nursery school in Sept though but he will be 4.

My youngest is 2.5 & he will not attend anything until he is 4. I don't see it necessary plus we will have 3 days of 2.5 hrs of just him & I when my oldest is in school.

no I didn't. I want to be home with my girls as much as possible. I'm doing a 2.5 hr a day 2 day a week program with my dd next yr when she is 3.

I did slow separation with DS #1 when he was 2.5. His birthday is in November so he missed the 10/1 cutoff at the preschool so we did it starting in the spring and then he did a regular 2 year old class over the summer.

With DS #2, we are doing a mommy and me now (he is 22 months) and then I signed up for the fall slow separation. Next spring, he should go into their 2-year old pre-nursery class if all goes well.

I hear it's super expensive & then times 2....Crazy. We are waiting until 3yrs. I am home so no need to go yet.

I'm so undecided about it. DD is only 21 months but everyone's asking me already.
I'd like to save money & keep her home as long as possible.
We have a library class where she plays with other kids & on thurs & sun I leave her in the nursery at church for 2 hours so I'm hoping that's good enough.
I guess I'll see how it goes.
