Potty Training Nightmare
Lauren is 3.5 and refuses to go on the potty, if we ask her diaper or potty she chooses diaper. We got her on a couple times and it took weeks to get her to sit there long enough (ready one of the girl potty books to her to keep her busy) and she tinkled just a little and we made a huge deal of it like a celebration that she went a little on the potty and we said bye to the pee and flushed, that was the last time that she was on the potty. Now the teachers at her preschool said she is refusing anyone changing her diaper at school. What is the best way to potty train a resistant 3.5 year old?

Consistency.....JJ was constantly refusing the potty but I knew it was time. I picked a period that I knew we could basically stay indoors for at least a week. The first day I told him, diapers ate gone & you will now wear big boy undewear. He wet through about 7 pairs of underwear in a matter of an hour. I was ready to throw the towel in but knew he could do it.
I kept giving him fluid so I knew his bladder was full. Then I set w mental clock that every 7 mins we would go on the potty. I reassured him that every time he went, he could have 3 m&ms. Eventually by that afternoon, he got the concept but still had some accidents. Within 3 days, he was fully pee trained.

Potty Training Nightmare
Over the weekend, get rid of the diapers. Be prepared to stay in and for a lot of accidents. Bribe her. Favorite treat or sticker chart to get something she really wants

I would do something like this.
Dedicate a weekend to it. When she wakes up on Sat morning tell her that the diaper is coming off and that from now on she will go in the toilet. Then, I'd also throw in that if she made peepee, she will get a treat of your choice (we did m&m's bc I knew ds would love them since he has never really had them prior & he's not really allowed to eat them) and poop two treats. She will beg you for a diaper & you just say no, you will wear underwear. Stand your ground! Good luck!

Have you tried the 3 day potty training method? The big thing is absolutely no more diapers - no pull ups either.

what if child is afraid to poop outside of diaper and wont do it on potty, or anywhere else, holds it in to the point of painful constipation?

I had this problem with my 1st DD, took 9 months from the timed we first potty trained to when she finally pooped in the potty. She's 6 now and we still struggle with constipation issues.
Almost done potty training DD #2 now and I started giving her fiber chews when we first started potty training so things flowed smoothly and she really couldn't hold it in until she got a diaper. Of course my plan backfired the other day when I missed her cues to go potty and she had a muddy mess in her pants.

I don't remember...but I do believe it addressed it. Thankfully DS didn't have this problem, but I recall my Nephew having it & it was pure torture... I remember him being in so much pain from holding it.
If I can find it (3 day method) I'll see what she says.
