We delayed the MMR until 2. I have a nephew with autism and I know it wasn't from the shot, but my sister swears it was, so for my own peace of mind we are waiting.
I did give them the chickenpox vaccine at 13 months due exposure to shingles. They had no reaction at all.

DD has not had it yet and I think she is a little behind schedule because her last well visit was at the tail end of when she had the flu, so I did not give her any vaccines. She has the 18m well visit next week but I think MMR will be at 21 mos or 2-year visit (because the other ones she is due for are more pertinent).

If you are not comfortable, for any reason, then wait to get it. My DS is turning 2 next month and we haven't gotten it yet.
If you google the statistics for the number of measles/mumps cases in the US last year you can see that's it's highly unlikely your DC will get one of these diseases. My ped also said the same thing to me when I told him I wanted to delay. He also said that it's extremely rare for anyone to die from measles these days.
So you just have to weigh the risks and do what you think is best for you and your DC. Don't let anyone force you into a decision one way or the other.
Edited to add- We took DS to Disney at 10 months and the ped never recommended any add'l shots or anything in advance of the trip.

I am just curious- not trying to be snarky or anything.
I see a lot of people who are nervous about the possible autism link wait until 2 years old.
If the shot does cause autism- wouldn't it still cuase it after 2 years old?

I am no expert, but when reading the many anecdotal cases of regression that people have reported after certain vaccines, it seemed apparent that basically all of them occurred in children younger than 2... perhaps 2.5, I don't remember exactly. I never read or heard of a child older than that regressing into autism following a vaccine. I have also read theories that there is a certain level of development in the brain/nervous system that really isn't complete till around 2-2.5 years old, so I imagine a less mature nervous system might be more vulnerable to vaccine injury.
That said, my kids were both around 3 when they got the MMR.

At 2 the blood brain barrier is fully formed and closed, and your child's Immune system is better developed and better abled to handle the toxic overload that they're injected with with every vaccine.

Oh, I am definitely giving DD the vaccination on time. I work in the field, and am well aware of the false study that originally linked the MMR and autism. I was just looking for further information on the brain-blood barrier, and was happy to find that Live Strong article. I am very pro vaccinating on schedule (and my DD's ped never gives more than 2 at a time), but of course, every parent has to do what they feel comfortable with.

This! My twins are 28 months and do not have the MMR yet. I'm not afraid of Autism but other reactions to the shot. I have a friend who had a seizure due to a fever and stopped breathing as a reaction from the shot. Of course this was 28 years ago but still. I'm waiting until three and that will be the only shot they recieve. I wont give anything else with it. I plan on doing the same thing with DC # 3.

Thank you so much for all your input and advice! Yes mu dr really said that about the delay. I know that the article on autism was retracted. I also read something about it affecting the nervous system/ brain etc where it opens up/ strips receptors or something so they are more vulnerable to certain issues at certain times... Which relates to seizures etc. I wish I could find the article. When reading the CDC report it said something about preexisting nervous issues in the safety part. So I am just confused what to do even though right now he has no issues.
I think I would hold off until 2 and possibly still will, but DH understands the drs point of view being in an international airport and Disney so I may lose that battle, and do it a few weeks before the trip at 20.5 months. At least that still gives him a few months to develop and we can revisit the issue.

MMR Vaccine
I waited until a little after 2 bc I wanted my DD to be talking more and I am glad I did because she DID have a reaction and I was glad she was able to talk and tell me what was wrong. Her reaction was low grade fever, total change in behavior - crying and so emotional and the biggest thing was her legs and joints hurt. Im glad she was at least able to tell me that bc she got to a point that she didnt even want to walk anymore. I would have been more freaked out if I couldnt communicate with her what was going on. It all went away after about 3 or 4 days.
Oh and I flew with her 2x one being to Canada before she got the shot
