Cape May vs. Cape Cod

Where would you take your 2 year old over 4th of July week, Cape May, or Cape Cod?

I am between these 2 for vacation, and everything about Cape Cod is making me so confused, but I don't want to be too bored in Cape May.

What about going to Ocean City? It is supposed to be a really great family town, with tons to do. As far as I know, it wasn't ruined from Sandy. Cape Cod is great, but I have a cousin who used to go there yearly, and stopped because there were too many sharks in the water, and they would either close the beaches or be on alert.

Also, when we used to go to Cape Cod years ago, we stayed in Chatham, which was a beautiful town!!

The thing about ocean beach is its a dry town. Don't get me wrong we are obv not going to party but we do like to have wine or a couple beers with dinner.

I've been to both, but haven't been to Cape Cod with kids yet.

Cape May is closer & I think it has lots to do. There is a zoo, Aquarium (in AC), beach & a main street with little shops & ice cream places. You can do a trolley tour & a house tour. I usually spend a few days there... so it depends on how fast paced you like your vacations. If you can spend a few days lounging at the beach & pool... it works. DO check to see if the places are open after Sandy.

Cape Cod has some amazing whale watching & a large town (Provincetown)... which is interesting. I wasn't that amazed by the beaches. There are shops & mini golf. I have combined that with Newport & Mystic to make it longer. We also take the ferry to Martha's vineyard & check out the gingerbread cottages.

Both are good. Different. We usually staycation the weekend of the 4th because our town has a nice celebration & pool party.

I replied to your post on Mmg..that was you right? I've been going to Cape May since I was little, my mom has a summer home down there. I love it because there is so much to do in the area besides Cape May....you go for Cape May but there is also Wildwood and Stone Harbor which are 10-15 mins away, Avalon which is just north of Stone Harbor and Atlantic City is a half hr north. Atlantic City and south wasn't touched by Sandy. Cape May has a few parts...the historical part which is wonderful and full of cute shops, places to eat, trolley tours, horse and carriage rides, mini golf, home tours, a great spa, and the beach of course. West Cape May has cute shops and the lighthouse. We took ds when he was 11 months and did the pirate lunch at an estate. You can rent bikes, you can go on whale and dolphin watching boat tours, you can rent jet skis and go hanglidding. Wildwood is very close and they have an amusement park on the boardwalk as well as salt water taffy shops, an aquarium, etc. Stone Harbor is close and has cute shops and places to eat and a movie theater. The Cape May Zoo isn't far from Stone Harbor and it is free...well they ask you to make a donation when you drive in. It's a great big zoo!

We did the Shore last year with my little guy...who will be 23 months when we go again this year.....

Last year he wasnt even 1 yet and had a blast!!!

Cape May all the way! We have been doing a shore house rental since mybdaughter was born 3 years ago. Cape May has tons to do. Plus, if you want the boardwalk, you can hop the bridge to Wildwood. I have tons of restaurant recs for you too. Feel.free to FM me. :)
