Poor lil man. 6 ear infections and now a fever cold cough. He is almost 1 year old. Please tell me I am not doing anything wrong...the doc says some kids are just like this when they are little

Is he in daycare? My DD was not sick very often as in infant/toddler because she was at home being watched by my MIL but since she's been enrolled in preschool, she's been sick a lot! I think she's had 4 ear infections. I feel like we are at the peds every other week, not to mention I have a 1 year old now too so the passing back and forth is adding to the trips. That being said, I'm hoping for it to get a little bit better when it starts to warm up. I am SO DONE with this horrible cold and flu season!

Yes, dd was sick so much from daycare. From 12 mos - 18 mos she had so many coughs, ear infections, etc.
But now that she's 2, she's not sick nearly as often as she was. It's def leveled off.

My DS has had a cold a month (generally). But has had no ear infections. I think soem kids are just more prone to ear infections and nothing you do will change that.

As for colds. DS gets them and they never slow him down a bit. If it wasn;t for all the boogers you would never know he had them. Daycare is part of the reason he gets so many but my Ped also said that the average baby will be sick 6-8 times in the first year so I figure DS was right on target.

Yes! DD started daycare at 6 months old. From then until a little after a year she was sick CONSTANTLY. Ear infections, croup, colds, diaper rashes... I feel like we lived at the doctor's office. Knock on wood, this season, she hasn't been too bad at all. Runny noses are a given with kids, but we only had one visit to the ped during sick season.

Do you give him probiotics? That may help.

DD i feel is sick all the time during the winter months. She has been in daycare since 3 months and i felt like it was non stop with colds.

your not doing anything wrong. On a plus side everyone keeps telling me that they are building up thier immune system so when they reach school age they will rarley be out sick

My twins were not in daycare and wer sick all the time! You name it they got it...ear infections, croup, coxsackie, roseola, stomach virus etc.

Thanks everyone! Yes to the probiotics. I just keep missing work plus paying for daycare and I keep thinking I am a bad momma. But it helps to know I am not the only one with a healthy "sicky" kwim? Xoxo

Between my DS's 1st and 2nd bdays he was sick approximately every 6 weeks (and he was sick a lot the winter before that). He caught everything at daycare. I took so many days off of work that it was embarrassing and such a strain on me. I too thought something was wrong with him or I was doing something wrong. But my ped always blamed daycare and said he was normal. I made sure to give him vitamins and probiotics. I also became super strict about washing sheets, jackets & stuffed animals when he was sick (and getting a new toothbrush). But nothing really helped. Anyway, he is almost 3 now and things have been much better this past year. I don't know if it's because he finally built some immunity, stopped gnawing on his germy hands or he just grew out of it. Whatever the reason...I'll take it! Hang in there! Hopefully it will get better soon!! At least the summer is usually less germy!

My dd wasn't even in daycare and was always sick! She eventually had tubes after 8 ear infections in less than 6 months. She had rsv her first year, had to be on the nebulizer 3x. The. 2nd yr was much better. Hope your little guy feels better soon!
