Introducing sippy cup Help
So Im introducing the sippy cup to my 9.5 month old. She puts it in her mouth but bites on it not sucks on it. I try to tell her to suck like a baba but clearly she doesn't get what Im saying. Ive been doing it everyday with her this week but still no sucking.
How do I get her to suck?
How did you guys introduce it?
Did anyone find that using a straw cup instead of a sippy cup worked better?

It took DD a little while to figure out what to do with the sippy. We gave it to her with some water at every meal for practice, although I'm not sure how old she was. At first she'd play with it and throw it on the floor. She eventually figured it out. I think it just takes time. We used the starter Tommee Tippee sippy.

I skipped sippy cups and went right to a straw cup. Playtex makes a small one that you can squeeze a little and the water comes up. Once DS realized the water was there he figured it out pretty quickly. I started at about 6 months old and by 8 months or so he had the hang of it. I plan ondoing the same thing with DD2

Same. It took her a month or two to really get it but squeezing the water up definitely helped her understand. Plus she always sees me use a straw bottle and now she actually uses mine just as well.

Agreed. These straw sippys that you squeeze are the best, and so easy to learn with.

Just keep giving it to her all the time. She will get it. It may just take a few times. We use the NUBY cups

just a warning about the playtex cups. Once you are putting cold liquids in it it leaks everywhere. We learned this once we went to milk. So I have a ton of cups that can only have room temp liquids in it. the NUBY straw cups are great.
Give it some time, your LO will get it.

We are using the Playtex straw cups and have not had any issues with leaking the cold water from the Brita. She sips on it here and there, but doesn't drink a whole lot from it. I also find that she has trouble tilting it back and having the straw remain in the liquid if the cup is not completely full.

Yes im giving it to her everyday with every mesl. Todayshe actually put it in her mouth herself so were getting there!

I introduced a straw sippy cup first. Dr said hey are goo because it works muscles necessary for speech. I ordered Zoli brand cups from amazon. Afte hat I started with Tilty brand cps ( also from amazon) very easy or DS to use

I also recommend the Playtex Little Grippers. Both my kids learned how to use straw sippys after a few tries using that one.

I bought this one & DD HATED it. She won't go near it! I think it's trial & error to find the cup that works for your kid. Maybe I'll save it for when she's older (she's 15 months).

DD has Nuby. We are moving onto the straw cup now. Thanks fro the reco, Im going to look into the little grippers.

I gave DD a straw cup at 8 months. I took the straw part out, put it in water.then held my finger over the end so it held water. Then I put it in her mouth and let a little come out at a time so she understood water comes out. After that she understood she needed to suck the straw for water to come out.
