Natural lice treatment

Has anyone used tea tree oil or another natural treatment for lice?

i use tea tree mixed in DDs shampoo as a preventative.....not to actually treat lice thought.

Someone told me coconut oil too! Is there anything that stuff can't do???

I spoke to the lady at my natural food store and she recommended a certain brand of tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner...we are trying that along with combing out the nits (so gross!) and using a tea tree oil spray on the hair in between (it supposedly helps to dissolve the "glue" that holds in the nits)...I don't want to do the chemical treatments, so I'm really hoping this works! It seemed to be doing its job because after one washing, I could remove the nits easily!

I really have no experience with lice......never had it and neither have my kids......but I think I read that natural remedies will not work on lice.

I feel like its a crap-shoot...and I'm totally willing to take the chance not to put those chemicals on my baby's head! That stuff scares me and the good thing is that lice isnt a huge deal, so if it takes us a little longer to get rid of it, it's ok.

The most important part is the combing. You can use olive oil for the combing and to leave in with a shower cap. Messy, but does the job without anything harmful.

So as a little update...we never had any live lice, just nits (none had hatched). I have done the tea tree shampoo several times and left in the conditioner overnight...we combed through once already today and think we got most of them out...it seems like the tea tree oil dissolves some of that glue that sticks the nits...we are going to wash again in a few hours with the shampoo and then rinse with white vinegar (which is supposed to dissolve that glue even more) and comb through again. I washed everything in our house last night and dried on high and will do the same again today and hopefully we can get rid of them! I also bought some preventative spray to use in their hair to hopefully keep them at bay for the future, and we are adding tea tree oil to our shampoo to use as well.

Even if you did not find lice she def had them to lay the nits. Go through the hair every day for at least a week. The best method is a nit comb on hair with left in conditioner it will remove nits and lice. Nits will fall off into hats and onto stuffed toys etc so wash everything! Also vacuum car seat etc. good luck nits are very hard to get rid of. Also try and find out who gave them to your lo so you don't get re infested.

She got them at school, I'm sure of that...nothing has hatched yet on her (no empty shells), so if we can catch them before they hatch, we should be pretty good. I'm going to call the school nurse tomorrow and report it, so she can check the class and the bus, hopefully to find out where they came from and stop the cycle now.

Literally everything washable has been washed in our house, non-washable things have been dried on high for 40 minutes (all stuffed animals, etc.) and every surface has been vacuumed...if I can get them all out of her hair, I think we are going to be clear!
