Oh Rachel! You need soooo many hugs! I am so sorry you are going through this! Many new moms go through PPD and never do anything about it. I'm glad you are going to therapy, but I don't think that's enough. I've been lucky not to go through this but from what I understand you need more than therapy. I know how much you want to BF but like others have said, your happiness is what's the most important right now. An unhappy mommy just can't provide as much as a happy mommy- that is babies can sense how you are feeling. When you are happy you want to play with your baby more, give more attention to her than just going through "the routine" of everyday life. Many women who have had PPD and never treated it can hurt themselves or their babies (I'm not suggesting that you will).

We are always here for you.

Im on Zoloft Now and My PCP, and My OBGYN and My RE all said it was ok to take while TTC, once I was PG and if I choose to BF. Iw ould mention it, since I feel secure in taking it now.

Whatever you decide remember what's important is that Ava has a happy mom. By doing what's best for you you ARE ultimately doing what's best for her.

It gets better I promise. Good for you for talking with someone. Ava's a very lucky little girl. Hang in thereChat Icon

Couldn't have said it better myself. I suffered from PPD, but I was not BFing, so I didn't have to face a hard decision like you. Find out as much as you can about taking Zoloft while BFing and show it to your doctor if you have to. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

What if you went on a pumping frenzy and pumped for 2 weeks or so and got up a good supply of BM bottles for her? That way she'd still have your BM for a little longer and you'd be able to take the meds guilt free if the other methods don't work for you?

Re: I'm putting myself out there by posting this...

I was also going to recommend pumping like crazy and trying to get as much as possible before quitting ... even if you were able to span it out over a long time -- and say maybe give her 4 formula bottles and 1 BM bottle for another month or two ... that would still be such a big deal.

Also I would call lalecheleage or a LC to find out if you can take any of the meds, maybe your Dr was wrong!

I also suffered from PPD and still feel depressed sometimes at 9 months post-partum, last night was actually a really hard night for me. I never spoke with anyone about it except my DH and mentioning it a few times on here. I think it shows a lot of strenth on your part to put it out in the open like this. Re: I'm putting myself out there by posting this...

I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who responded to this and to all the people who sent me FMs. It means a lot to me. I felt I needed to post this here because I didn't know where else I could find a group of women who have recently had babies that might have gone through the same thing. I hate knowing that some of you have gone through this or are going through it now because I know how terrible it is, however, it really is nice to know I'm not the only one. I always say that I try not to hide what goes on in my life, and as unhappy as I am that I am going through this now, I think it only makes it worse that this is something that most people don't talk about. No one ever answers honestly when you ask them how they're doing after the baby, it's just not what you do. You tell everyone how wonderful it is, then secretly feel horrible all the time on the inside. I just can't do that anymore. It's too hard to sit here and pretend that I am just completely overjoyed when most of the time, I'm not.
I'm still in the process of deciding what to do about BF-ing or starting her on formula. I am going to get a second opinion about the situation, as it seems I've come across some women who are currently BF-ing and taking antidepressants. I've made it five weeks feeling this horrible, so I'm not going to rush making this decision since it's somethign to important to me.
Thank you so much again to everyone. And I apologize to those of you who FM-ed me that I haven't gotten back to yet. I will, I promise!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I'm putting myself out there by posting this...

i waited 8 months to get help for my ppd and it almost cost me my marraige. i was miserable and unreasonable and really hard to live with. Take care of yourself, you will be a better mommy for it. i stopped bf before i started meds-- i know that is very hard to do-- there's alot of guilt involved for moms but formula is also very good for babies! good luck you will make the right decision.Chat Icon Chat Icon

Rachel,

I'm going through a similar situation. I'm still trying to figure out if it is just temporary or if I need to seek treatment. Feel free to FM if you ever want to talk.

I don't have any advice re: BF, but I wanted to thank you for being so candid. You are probably helping more people than you know.
Best of luck and I'm glad you're getting help...
