Re: Inter-Office Affairs

I don't really mind inter-office "affairs" - meaning when the two people are available and meet at work and realize they have feelings for one another. It's a different story if either or both of the people are married or involved with someone else, or if any type of favoritism comes as a result of the affair.

In my experience though, most of the inter-office "affairs" were between people who happened to meet at work and developed feelings. As this is what happened to me, I obviously don't see this as a bad thing. However, once FH and I decided to date we agreed that i would look for another job. Unfortunately that doesn't always happen overnight and it can take a little time to find something else.....

I am not sure if the term inter office affairs really only applies to a relationship that is also an extra-marital affair. In my case, it was not.

I'm pretty sure the one I knew about is over now. Extremely disruptive. I'm sure there are others I don't know about.

Re: Inter-Office Affairs

With the exception of one inter-office affair that i knew about where a man was cheating on his wife with a woman he worked with, all of the others ended in marriage and none of the people work together anymore. I think more and more people meet at work these days now that women make up a large part of the work force in many fields that they traditionally did not. And in the case of the woman seeing the married man, I actually pitied her because he was never going to leave his wife for her and everyone around the office knew of the affair and viewed her as a pathetic idiot. Also, of course I felt bad for the man's wife who was also none the wiser. No good can come out of a situation like that - just hurt all around.

Re: Inter-Office Affairs

My old firm was like a meet market.. everyone was constantly hooking up with everyone (married/single or otherwise Chat Icon) Now mind you I LOVED that firm, truly the best job I ever had - but the inter-office affairs and romances were beyond nuts after awhile. Sometimes you couldn't keep track of who was with who and it was like a soap opera Chat Icon.

More than a few marriages broke up over the goings-on there but on a positive note many many happy marriages stemmed from relationships that started there as well.

When I was single, well before meeting long DH - I had a 4 yr on/off relationship with a co-worker there... it was exciting and great, but also horrible and stressful (if that makes sense)..

And many bosses were having affairs with their secretaries/assistants... ugh, those were the WORST Chat Icon

Re: Inter-Office Affairs

There are a few going on at my company although they really believe no one "knows" but everyone talks about.

I had a 9 month inter office affair with an old boss once

At my old job, you couldn't keep track of who was with who! And I mean single, engaged, married, it didn't matter. It was like a place to hook up! I know two people who slept together in the parking lot after work one day, and they both were dating other people!!!

I'm sure there are.

DH and I work for the same company, but we were dating before I started working there.

Re: Inter-Office Affairs

In my old company, yes definitely, I can think of several.

The job I have been at for the past 3 years, NO! I work with just 7 women. Not a chance.

Re: Inter-Office Affairs

I met my husband at work but it wasn't an "affair" we were both single and never had been married before-I was part time and in college and he started full time-no one knew we were dating until after I graduated college and left for a new full time position, although people in the office used to tell us we should date Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Inter-Office Affairs

It's hard to tell. For example I have three close work friends, two of which are men. One is married with triplets and one is soon to be engaged, YAY!! I hear rumors sometimes that people think that one of us are together. And we are clearly not, but people just assume. The only way to tell is if you catch someone.

I am too new to know at my new job-- but I am sure there is something going on in almost every office-- unfortunately, that's just the way it goes..

Re: Inter-Office Affairs

There are two staff members in my school who many of us could swear are having an affair.

We've had marriages break up in my school. It has gotten messy. One person left because of it.
