brushing teeth with a toddler

I am having a difficult time with my son on brushing his teeth. Any advice he is 19 months and I am really fighting with him. I know he needs to do it but its becoming a struggle.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

I got dd (18 months ) a spin brush and I use one to and I have her copy me and look in the mirror . I also sit her on the counter so she has access to the faucet so she can spit and rinse like me . She does the best she can !

I tried that and it worked for a few days and then he would not have it. He wants to play in the water.

I bought DS (18 months now) a little boy tooth brush and made a big deal about it. I also give it to him first and let him "brush" his own teeth. Then I say okay its mommy's turn say AHHH and try to do a quick brush. I try to make it fun and make silly faces when we say AHHH. I also don't let him leave the bathroom or do anything else until he lets me have my turn. HTH!!!

I would just keep trying keep pushing it . Maybe bribe him with something he likes to do . " let's brush teeth then you can paint etc."

She loved it i got her the one they decorate with stickers so maybe that helped . She sucks the water off but I correct her and tell her to brush like mommy and I exaggerate my motions and she mimics it . When she doesn't do a good job I still praise her for trying . Hth

There is a Yo Gabba Gabba video on YouTube called It's Fun to Brush Your Teeth...Brushing With Plex (or something like that)...watching that was the ONLY way I could finally convince my DD to brush!

Sometimes I have to brush on of her toys teeth first. So I bring in her Minnie doll and "brush" hers first then I put a tiny amount and let her do her teeth then I put some more on and I tickle her teeth. I say open up and then as I brush I say "tickle tickle tickle". My dh counts her teeth as he does it.

Just keep trying and trying and trying. She was difficult at that age.. then she finally got that what barney was doing was what Mom has been trying to do. So she tried. Then more and more of her favorite cartoons would brush so she tried to as well. We took her to the dentist at 2ys old and that made it more real and fun. So she was better after that. Then this year she went back again and let me tell you, she brushes her teeth EVERY morning without fail and lets me do the 'upside' which is I go over the whole set myself getting the back of the teeth, molars and her one crooked tooth, plus all the gum lines.

my DD is 19 months too and it has been a struggle until recently. all of a sudden we started alternating between brushing her tongue and then her teeth. she thinks its funny to brush her tongue, and then when i move on to her teeth she just lets me. honestly, it felt like a miracle bc brushing was such a pain in the butt. i dont know how good of a job i am doing when i actually do brush, but i hope its sufficient.

We have a routine...first they brush teeth then they get 10 min of tv before bed. If they bite the brush or don't let me brush I tell them no tv. It works for us.
