OMG this happened yesterday to us! DH dug out our car and ran to CVS quickly and someone did the same thing! People are SO SO SO rude. Some other @sshole dug out his car and ALL of the snow from behind it and around it, and on it is in one GIANT mount in the middle of the just plowed parking lot that we all now have to get around or over. I seriously almost went down there yesterday and gave him hell.

Unfortunately, that is how it is. I remember living in a complex and always shoveling out nicely and never having that spot to come back to. You see the people with 4 wheel drive shovel as little as possible and then take the clean spots. I don't think you can complain about someone taking a spot, I just hate that some people do the bare minimum to get out while others take the time and shovel properly.

I know it sucks but since it's not your assigned spot there is nothing you can do about it. I learned a long time ago not to shovel out a perfect spot because it will be gone in minutes. And on the flip side if you were looking for a spot wouldn't you take the nice perfectly shoveled spot, I know I would

I still will always shovel out as best I can. If it's gone, it's gone, but it is the right thing to do.

Re: err, parking vent

This happened to us when we were in a complex a few years ago. We actually dug a few spaces and helped some neighbors with theirs too. A guy from across the courtyard saw the nice clean spots and took one for himself and left his mess by his own apartment. Rob went right to the neighbor with a shovel and said "Hey Buddy! I figured you didn't have a shovel to dig out a spot - which is why you used the one I dug out. I thought you might wanna help me shovel a new space for my car now."

The guy came right out and helped.Chat Icon

It is not about "your space, my space" - no, we do not have the "right" to the spot. It is just a matter of common decency, or the lack thereof. Do the work yourself like everyone else did, don't ride the coattails of someone else's hardwork and then make them do it all over again.

No, I wouldn't actually. I would dig out my car/space like everyone else did. I would NEVER take a spot that someone else did all the hard work on, never.

I hate to say it but this is how it is when you park in a lot...its the same as street parking. If you live in the city do you really expect the spot to be there when you get back...No. Same as a lot without assigned spots.

Sucks but it is life.

Ugh parking lots become dog eat dog in complexes. 95% of our neighbors wouldn't do this, but there is one family on our block who will do it without blinking after not lifting a finger to help anyone clean up. It's frustrating. I know how you feel.

This always happens, we lived in a coop for years and people would literally pull in to our shoveled spot as soon as we left

I agree. While they have every right to take your DH's shoveled spot, its common decency NOT to. When I lived with my parents we used to have neighbors who did this all the time. They wouldn't shovel in front of their house at all. They'd wait for one of us to leave and move their car in front of my parent's house. It might be ok, but its not the right thing to do. It's just plain lazy and rude.

When we were in a complex we would wait for a spot to be cleaned out and move our car and then clean the spot we emptied. It was just how everyone there did it. And if the people parked next to you were cleaning you went out at the same time to clean. Everyone worked together. 5 years living there and I can only remember 1 person that was rude.

This used to happen to DH when we lived in a complex. He would get sooo pissed, because he was the only one to shovel his spot out and someone would steal is ASAP. And it's not like you have ASSIGNED spots, but when you live in a complex, everyone usually has a spot that they always park in.

just to clarify i think its crappy the guy basically stole your spot, i would not leave my crappy spot and park in your nice spot,
i meant it more that if the spot i shoveled out is gone i would take a nice clean spot over a crappy one,
if this person didn't steal the spot chances are someone else would have, it just sucks the way they did it

i grew up in brooklyn and watched people put garbage cans in the nice cleaned out spot so no one would take it, i have had someone shovel their sidewalk and rebury my nicely shoveld out car, i have seen it all believe me. i have learned to just deal with it as annoying as it is

I live in a garden apartment in Queens. No one would NOT take a clean spot, including me! Parking is difficult as it is, forget about it when there is snow! Maybe where you are the population isn't as dense. But our spot to car ratio sucks! If you don't take a clean spot, you lose!

see I get this, but my theory is, everyone started in a spot. if everyone cleans out the spot they started in, then, there are still spots for everyone. if this person cleaned his spot out so another car can park there, then whatever, but he drove over a mound of snow and parked in my clean spot. went in his house and shut the door. no second thoughts about it.

This irks the living daylights out of me. We rent in a house. My DH had his friend come over with his snowblower to clear parking spots in front of the house for us. A spot was also cleared for me to get DD in and out of the car (car seat is on the passenger side near the curb). Yesterday we went out and my LLs DH parked his car in the spot and a neighbor parked his car in a spot because he was too lazy to shovel his driveway. My LL had his car in the driveway all weekend (their driveway fits 4 cars - plenty of room). Why move it into the only available street spot in front of the house that MY DH cleared out when you know I have a kid to get in and out. It's just about common courtesy.

people can be inconsiderate jerks. I hate living in an apartment complex for this reason. It's basically every man for himself! :( I wouldn't take a spot I saw someone else clean, but I have had it done to me
