Laptop recommendations...
I got a Lenovo Ideapad from Best Buy for around $450 a few years ago. Still runs great and I use it for games, internet browsing, word processing.

Laptop recommendations...
Cost effective maybe not but I have had my Macbook since 2007 and have never had to do anything to it. Still runs as good as the day I bought it, no virus software.

I'm looking for a new one too and might just buy a Mac!
I have a Dell Inspiron and have had a ton of problems with it, battery, battery charging board, AC adapter, one thing after the other.
