WASHINGTON - The House has adjourned without voting on aid for Hurricane Sandy victims.

Seaford Congressman Peter King calls his fellow Republican's decision "inexcusable."

King tells reporters it is unprecedented for lawmakers to walk away from a natural disaster. Sen. Charles Schumer calls the move "truly heartless."

Schumer says House Speaker John Boehner should reconsider his ill advised decision.

The new 113th Congress will hold its first meeting at noon tomorrow.

I think it's horrible, I was in awe of Peter King for what he had to say about the republican party. I really respect him...

It is 100% disgusting. They are shirking their responsibility. I really hope the next time they are up for reelection and come pandering to NY donors we all show them the door and give NOTHING to their campaigns. They all come here for donations, but when we need help they are no where to be found. Not cool House, not cool at all.

From what I'm hearing, there was a lot of pork associated with this bill - a program in a Alaska, a race track in the South and a bunch of other things that had nothing to do with disaster relief for Hurricane Sandy. Can someone confirm?

I'm in awe because he's such a complete a-hole that I'm surprised he stood up to them.

I think the Sandy bill is emblematic of many of the problems in our system. It contained some non-essential pork projects which is why the Tea Party republicans feel justified in voting against it

Heard the same. That it was more heartless to 'cash in' on Sandy than to just help the victims.

Plus not ALL GOP is heartless. Such a board hate is unwarranted.

Supposedly HALF of the bill was pork.

Ridiculous.

I don't always agree with him but I'm glad he said that. A lot of his constituents are impacted. But it's absurd to pad these bills with unneeded stuff, I guess they figure the bill would be more likely to be passed if there was "something for everyone" as opposed to just helping those who truly need it. They should have continued to work on this bill instead of adjourning. What a bunch of crap!!!!

Congress should be fired. This is Lame Duck like I've never seen it.

But this is our problem. There is always somehing extra throw in. some random pork project that is a waste of money.

The gov't is in no position to be spending money on race tracks. I don't know what the project is in Alaska.

It sucks for the victims of Sany and they should have stayed and tried to get the pork out but I give the GOP a little credit for trying to stand-up to our out of control spending.

This is the problem with our government! I feel terrible for Sandy victims and feel they should get whatever assistance they need but I am tired of a million pet projects being added to all bills. This has got to STOP! We do not have the money!

Al of us re sending our hard earned money to the government and they re squandering it without accountability. Something needs to change! Even the bill they just passed does not address any budget cuts or the sequesterChat Icon

What is it with the pork bull-shit!?? It needs to stop! Obama said we'd get relief no red tape remember???? What is it going to take??

I can't even believe I am living in a war zone in NYC 2013 and no one seems to give a flying fck! Once Wall St was up and running and the election was over, we were out of sight out of mind and the rest of the country thinks we're hunky dory.

Agreed. Pass it back and forth and create amendments to make it better. Don't quit.

I don't know the whole story but.

A lot of the time "pork" is not pork.

*SOME* of the time there is really important spending items included in large bills that would NEVER get passed on their own. They HAVE to "attach" it to another bill to get it passed.

I don't have anything in mind specifically.

But many in congress and the Senate will say "well, I need XYZ for my state/locality. Add XYZ in and I will pass the bill".

They all suck.

They have a pay freeze. IMO they should freeze their pay forever and make them pay for benefits.

Whether there was "pork" or no, they should have voted on it

Re: opinions? ~House GOP scraps vote on Sandy aid~

help me settle an argument.

I know this will be voted on tomorrow but the events of Wed...... what I could find says the House speaker adjourned.

Now this is what I dont know:

Is it parlimentary (sp) procedure where there has to be a majority to agree to adjourn?

Did they 'all walk out'? as my friend says?
