BF and increasing supply

So my supply is no where near what my DS needs. I've tried the tea and stuff in the past that didn't really work.

What worked best for you to increase your supply? And where did you get it from? Preferrably someplace I can order from online as getting out right now isn't that easy.

TIA!!

Pump pump pump!!!! I would pump immediately following every feeding to stimulate a larger up ply. Even if not much is coming out continue to pump, it's telling your ody to create more. Drink ALOT of water....if you don't have enough fluid you ont make enough. Also, I bought the tea and fenugreek. I think they helped but honestly I think it really increased because of pumping and water.

how old is your DS? for me, i had a ton of complications during birth and my supply was never repairable. it was always low. i was able to BF until 9m, but I was always supplementing too. i would get a small boost when i used more milk plus supplements but i think it made DD gassy so i didn't use it much. my supply always remained low - i hope if i have an uncomplicated birth someday i will have a normal supply. good luck!

Re: BF and increasing supply

I agree white what everyone else wrote. I also eat oats everyday, take fenugreek, blessed thistle, fennel, and I drank a beer everyday.
When I just could not make enough for the twins after doing all of the above with success (I made more milk, just not enough for 2 babies). I tried using domperidone. I got it through in house pharmacy. It is not FDA approve but has been used as a milk maker in Canada and Europe for decades. It works great.

But all of this weighs on the age of your little one and where you 2 are at in the process.

I agree with this! Pump right after every feeding, even if barely anything comes out. That way u r telling ur body u need to make more milk. What I did was have a manual pump handy to do this bc it was easier to move from room to room or do stuff while pumping than if I was hooked up to my electric one. Also drink to assesses of water. U should always have a glass of water in your hand or within arms reach. Both of theses things worked for me. In fact, lots of pumping from day in hospital (at recommendation of nurses) was how I established such a great supply! The LC at the hospital was so impressed she called me the "dairy queen!" Re: BF and increasing supply

I've always had supply issues. I drink ton's of water every day and pump pretty much at every feeding and still have to supplement since my DS is not getting enough.

He's almost 4 weeks now and due to complications at birth I wasn't able to BF immedietly, but started around 3-4 days when my milk started to come in. As it was being on the formula in the hospital he still lost over a pound in the beginning and we are just now back up to birth weight, and that is with supplementing with formula.

The ped suggested the mother's milk tea or the fenugreek.

How often is he feeding? In the beginning, I would just switch back and forth left, right, left to tell my body to make more and satisfy her. She ate every two hours for a long time and in the evenings it was closer to every hour. The more you put the baby on, the more you'll make. Try kellymom.com, there are lots of suggestions for how to increase your supply.

When I was pumping for DS in the beginning. My supply was very low. My lactation consultant at the hospital recommended pumping as much as possible, a beer every day and ovaltine! It definitely worked

Here's what helped me:

Fenugreek (Amazon)
More Milk Plus (the liquid - got from Amazon)
Lactation Cookies
Adding more pumping sessions

The combination of those helped me be able to make enough for my twins

Re: BF and increasing supply

I thought for sure I wouldn't be able to pump what I was before I went back to work full time.

Not sure if it's the Mother's Milk Tea or the single serving of real oatmeal I have everyday for breakfast.

When I was on leave I was able to pump up to 15oz a day. Yesterday I got 18oz and I'm not pumping no where near like I was.

I pump m-f 530am 1030am 230pm 630pm and 1030pm. On the weekends I dont space them out that way unless we are out somewhere

Can you tell me where you got the domperidone? Did you have any side effects?

I had no side effects. I got it through in house pharmacy . I did a lot of reading online about it and spoke to my LC about it before I decided to take it.
