Travel with 4-month old...

I need help, I feel so overwhelmed.

I will be traveling for the holidays and my DD will be 4 months old. It will be a car trip both times. The first trip will be almost 4 hours each way and the second trip will be almost 8 hours each way. I breastfeed and DD still eats every 2 hours. So, I have to find a place to stop/pull over every 2 hours to feed her I am presuming.

What else do I need to think of? Prepare in advance? What do I have to pack? We will be spending 3 nights at each place. I was going to bring the car seat, stroller, pack and play, and the rocker. What else should I bring or do to make everything go smoothly? I feel like traveling is going to be such a hassle and I am sooo scared of forgetting something!

We did what should have been a 5 hour trip when DD was 4 months and it turned into close to 8 (going was mainly due to weather and coming home was DD being fussy). We left right after a feeding and got as far as we could, stopped to let her (and us) eat, and then repeat as many times as necessary! I nursed her in rest stops (with my cover), a supermarket parking lot, a church parking lot, a temple parking lot, and a gas station parking lot.Chat Icon I would just grab her and sit in the front passenger seat with a burp cloth handy for coverage in case someone walked by. Easy enough. My friend was in the same boat and brought her pump so she could pump and feed on the road. Just plan for plenty of stops and extra time. On other trips, we've left after her last feeding in the evening and that would get us home from a 3 hour trip.

As far as packing, just jot down what you use each day and decide what's necessary. Plenty of diapers, wipes, burp cloths, anything they normally sleep with (white noise machine and musical seahorse for DD), toys. I usually pack a bag of meds and the thermometer just in case. GL, you'll be fine!

Re: Travel with 4-month old...

we took DD to DC when she was a little over 3 months. It was actually pretty easy to travel with her. I brought what you mentioned minus the rocker. I also brought the Ergo carrier in the case i wanted to use it. I brought a few toys and then the usual clothes, diapers, wipes, tylenol, etc. I did bring 3 bottles in the case I couldnt BF where I was but for the most part I was pretty surprised that I BF her everywhere. If you forget something usually you can pick it up.
