Anyone have a HSA / High Deduct plan?
Curious about the pros and cons. May be switching over to one in the near future.

Re: Anyone have a HSA / High Deduct plan?
I've had one for the past 5 years. This year switching off it to join DH's plan.
It really depends on the plan. The way my plan workes was (acutally the numbers changed a bit, but this gives you the idea)
First $1000 were paid by the fund. Second $1000 was completely out of pocket for me (Can use FSA to cover it, but you're still paying). After that, it was like a normal plan. 10% co-pays for most doctor visits, and a graduated plan for prescription drugs $3500 out of pocket maximum: After this, insurance pays 100%
A few exceptions: "Lifestyle" drugs that you have to take every day are always covered with the co-pay so you never have to pay full price for meds you have to take every day. This did not apply to my allergy medicine, but did apply to my allergy medicine. it would also cover drugts for diabetes, etc. Preventive care visits - 1 free per year, no copay Well woman visit - 1 free per year, no copay
It's good because I did like that after the OOP max it was free, but that $1000 I had to pay on my own was very hard. It really front loads your year with medical costs. If you take out an FSA to cover it, it's not bad, but it just got to be a lot to manage so even though it's costing us probably a little more, DH wanted to add me to his plan

I wonder if you work for DH's company - I'm trying to figure this all out as well.

Re: Anyone have a HSA / High Deduct plan?
I'm in one and hate it. Had to switch because DH's plan changed and my doctor wasn't covered. Since I'm pregnant, I was unwilling to change.
It is very expensive. It all depends on how your company sets up the plan and if/how much they contribute towards your out of pocket max and deductible.
The thing that sucks for us is there is still a pretty high paycheck deduction. So I pay the same out of my paycheck, plus the first $1,200 of my medical expenses. Under DH's traditional plan, we had a similar paycheck deduction but only paid $20 for office visits, $10/$20 for prescriptions, etc.
Since I'm having a baby, I will be paying the full amount, and since I am due on 12/31 - if she is late, and I go into 2013, I will have to restart my deductible and the $600 or so I've already paid towards tests, etc. will essentially have to be paid again :(
I am not a fan due to the expense.
