Post-Toddler Boys Clothes & Prices, help!!

Ok, so I've been very spoiled in that both my boys were fashioned by my MIL and Mom and gifts for the first few years. In fact, my DS (who is now in 4T clothes) I think I've bought 4 outfits for him through the years.

well, expiration date is here and I'm having sticker shock over the price of clothes. I am a die hard Carters fan, but realize my son is on borrowed time there.

Where do you find the best prices for boys clothes? Size 4T/4 (and t-shirts some small/5). Now that things are more "seperates" its a lot more expensives. I was surprised a sweat suit (ie the sweatshirt & the seperate pants) in Kohls (brand Jumping Bean) was going to cost $20!!

Help, I need to get him some basics stat.

Kohls is good, but only shop when you have a 30% coupon. Old Navy is good as well. Some items are cheaply made but others aren't. Buying in store is key. Children's place sometimes have some decent sales, but I get the most from them end of season. Buy summer clothes for next year now, winter clothes in the spring, etc. I have been fortunate to get a ton of hand me downs which I'm so glad for. Clothes are super expensive.

For me, I like Gymboree and the Gap. If I have a coupon and a sale I get jeans for $14. For pants $10, long sleeve shirts $7, shorts $5, short sleeve shirts $5 and carters pjs for 7. I find that you can also get those prices or less from Old Navy and Crazy 8. Children's Place can run slightly more, but their quality is not always pass downable.

Re: Post-Toddler Boys Clothes & Prices, help!!

I only shop when I have coupons. Every time I shop at Carters or Osh Kosh in store, they give me a 20% off coupon to use next month. And they are always stamping my card for $10 off my next purchase if I spend over a certain amount. You also earn double stamps on Tuesdays!

I find that Osh Kosh clothing runs bigger than Carters. Carters stuff shrinks a lot more, so I always size up. I think Osh Kosh washes and wears the best.

I'm finding that as DS gets older, the Kohls jumping beans brand is smaller on him too. Kohls 20% and 30% off coupons are key, and I never step foot in that store without a coupon. If they run a promo where you earn Kohls Cash, I try to take advantage of that too.

I also shop at the Children's Place, with a coupon. I do better at online shopping for CP than at the outlet. They always seem to be short on sizes/selection at the outlet.

IMO, keep him in toddler clothes as long as possible, because once they go into boy's sizes, they are more expensive. Even pajamas cost more for a boy's Small/4 than a toddler 4T or 5T.

To give you an idea for sizes, my son wears:

Shirts:
Osh Kosh 4T
Carters boys size 4
Children's place size 4
Jumping Beans size 4

Pants/sweats:
Osh Kosh 4T
Carters 5T or boys 5
Children's place 4T
Jumping Beans 4

Fortunately my son has gotten longer and leaner in the past year, so some stuff from last year fits him better since the pants and sleeves no longer need to be cuffed or rolled.

Childrensplace has a 30% off coupon an free shipping going on right now. They are really reasonable. I get a lot of my girls stuff at crazy8.com they always have good coupons through email and parents magazine. I do really well at Macys with coupons. Target has some really cute affordable things and sometimes I get some cute stuff an H&M

DS is in 4T now. For play clothes I go to Walmart and sometimes Target. Granimals seperates are $3.88 and $4.88. I've also gotten awesome deals at Sears on clearance-pants/shirts for $2 and zip up hoodies for $5. For nicer outfits I've spent a bit more and gone to ON, Kohl's, etc. Carter's I only go to for PJs now and sometimes I get a couple of good finds on clearance.

Re: Post-Toddler Boys Clothes & Prices, help!!

Every year for me is so different with different styles that I like and who has sales. I go where there is a sale.

I have gotten some really good clothes at Target, Kohls, Children's place: I just ordered online and used the 30% coupon online and that helped a lot. Gap Kids: clearance I have picked up some good finds.

My step-mom always finds good deals at JcPenney ~ whenever I go It never works out good for me for some reason.

Good Luck!

Re: Post-Toddler Boys Clothes & Prices, help!!

For inexpensive but decent stuff I would say to try:

OshKosh: Target has had some OshKosh clothing but I usually go to the store or online. We do well with their jeans.

Old Navy: I think it can be hit or miss based on location and how big their boys' department is.

Century 21: If you can get there it's always worth checking out if you have the patience for it.

Also, Sears probably has more stylish clothing than you'd expect from them and has good sales. In fact, if you wanted to do one stop shopping and not spend a lot I would say to just go there.

Re: Post-Toddler Boys Clothes & Prices, help!!

The boys have a mix of clothes from Target, Kohl's, Gymboree, Old Navy, Nautica, Gap and Ralph Lauren.

I buy lots of character shirts from Target and pants from Kohl's and Gymboree.

eta: I am not a fan of character clothes but the kids love them so I get it for them. 3yo DS loves sporting his Toy Story, Disney Cars, etc.

$3-$5 depending on brand. Most of ds pants are from there and they are all Gap and Polo jeans, khakis, sweatpants, and track pants. I just bought in excellent condition Polo half zip sweaters..about 5 of them, crew cuts tops, Polo sweaters and short sleeve polos, new Gap boots and much more

Re: Post-Toddler Boys Clothes & Prices, help!!

I buy a LOT of stuff at the end of the season. At the end of the spring season, I got a ton of long and short sleeve tops at the Gap for $5-$7 each. Some things, mainly pants, are hard to buy ahead, because I never know if the length will be good or not.

I mainly shop at:
Kohls - sales and with a coupon
Old Navy - I find it hit or miss
Children's place - with coupons
Target
Sears
Gap, mainly only things on great sales
Carters with coupons (they do go up to size 7, but I think the sizes run smaller after you get out of 4T/5T).
