anyone else still feeding 5 month during night?

Dr said at 6 months if he wakes up you don't feed
....only give water. He drinks 4-6oz every 3-4 hours ( abt 5 -6 bottles per day) and now cereal & fruit in afternoon/late morning and veggie at night and sometimes fruit. He still wakes like 2 or 3am and drinks bottle. Any advice? He is hungry it's not habit.

Ds was sleeping though the night and now for two weeks has been waking up at 4 to eat then again at 6. I'm thinking it maybe a growth spurt.

Everyone has different opinions on this.

My babies are 7 months old today (adjusted age is about 5.5 months) and they both still wake during the night to BF.

If I feel my babies are actually hungry, I'm going to feed them!

I'm not ready to CIO yet and even if I think they are waking out of habit, I'm okay with feeding them to comfort them. There are days where I'm frustrated and sleep-deprived and a total zombie, but I'm not ready for CIO just yet!

My DS is almost 9 months and soemtimes he will wake up hungry so I feed him. As they get older you can kinda tell if they are up cause they are hunrgy or soemthing else.

If he is hungry he gets fed.

DD woke up in the night to eat until 12 months. I am a FTWM, so I always figured it was more that she wanted to bond than to eat. We won't do CIO - it wouldn't work with DD.

IMO 5 months isn't too old to be feeding during the night.

At 7 months I had to finally let DS cry it out. He has a huge appetite and I was doubting that he was really hungry. I was a walking zombie (I had a 4yr old too) So I decided to let him CIO. He cried one night , for 45 minutes and has been sleeping through the night since.

My son hasn't had a night time feeding since he was 2 months old.

IF i were you... i'd gradually reduce the ounces in his bottles at night and hope that he takes more during the day. At this point, he is waking out of habit. Habit of his 'schedule.' Just like you get hungry around noon and 6 o'clock. That's when your body is programmed to eat (because it's when you normally eat every day). Same for him. Chat Icon

Gradually reduce the ounces and see what happens. I did this with my 1st son and it worked. Chat Icon

i still nurse my 5 month old at night. she usually wakes up around 4 and sometimes she'll eat like she needed it and other times she will fall asleep soon after beginning to nurse. Maybe it is partially a habit but I don't want to cut her off. I'm a ftwm too so maybe she does want more nursing sessions with momma Chat Icon

DD woke to eat until around 8.5 months. It was most definitely NOT habit, the kid was ravenous. I never tried to force feed her more during the day, she didn't want it.

You could try doing cereal instead of veggies at night. My DD started sleeping longer when she got cereal 2x a day , but that wasnt until about 7 months. So you wouldn't be alterering his feeding schedule, just changing what he's eating. I am personally against feeding a baby when they are not asking for it, I think that creates a bad habit - teaching to eat when not hungry.

I know it's hard when people tell you that they should be STTN already, but all babies are different.

I despise the school of thought that a baby "isn't allowed" to be hungry at night past X months. Why not?? You've (collective you) never randomly woken up hungry at 3am??
When DD woke up, if she was hungry, she ate. I never withheld food. If you think your child is hungry then I would continue the night feed.

Re: anyone else still feeding 5 month during night?

Thank.u all for ur advice. Everyone has great ideas. I will try do maybe cereal with fruit at night and maybe veggie for lunch instead. Maybe that is more filling too. Eventually he will have 3 meals a day.....so i could do cereal in mornings and night.

I was...and it was concerning me because he was having 30+ oz a day..sometimes the overnight pushed him to 35+ ...and that was with cereal 2x a day. He is a big boy..90%..always has....at about 21 weeks old..I spoke to doc and simultaneously introduced a lunch with bottle/veg. and when he woke I just rocked him back and refused to feed him..it was just at a point where I knew a habit was developing and he was clearly getting enough food. After one night of him crying in my arms for a 1/2 an hour and me not feeding him..he never woke again for a feeding. If he does wake up during night he plays in crib and plays and sometimes whines until he falls back to sleep..which I admit I do at times cave and rock him....I am not sure if it was the third meal or me refusing to feed that night..it;s been about 3 weeks and I have not fed him at night.
hth..good luck.

DS is 16 months and he will still wake up occasionally in the middle of the night- maybe twice a month on average. A bottle is the only thing that will calm him down and send him back to sleep so I do it. I know it is bad for his teeth but it doesn't happen very often, and because he goes right back to sleep if I give him milk, I know that the reason he woke up was because he was hungry.

I agree. At 5 months, DS was still waking 2-3 times per night to nurse. At 6 months, he dropped down to waking once per night. At 7 months, he finally started STTN.

I don't, so no advice from me per se, but my friend does. Her DS is almost 12 mos Nd STILL gets a bottle at night. He's a peanut and still goes for monthly weight checks. He barely eats anything, so any food she can get in him at any time is worth it to them. Do what you gotta do!

We woke the twins just before we were going to bed for a final bottle of BM. We did this from some point early on (I really dont remember when), until they were about 8 months adjusted age. Every few weeks we would try not waking them to see if they were ready. Finally, they were

DS is turning 5 mos tomorrow and as of this week has started STTN. However, that is when I give him a heavy feeding with cereal at around 10pm, sometimes a dream feed. During the day he takes 4-5 oz every 3 hrs. But at night I would give him 6-7 with the cereal and With that, so far the longest he has gone is from 10 to 8.

DD will be 5 months in a week and I can't imagine not feeding her if she wakes. She STTN for a month from 2.5-3.5 months but not since. She goes to bed around 8:30 and wakes anywhere between 11pm and 4am to be fed. Sometimes she passes out almost right away and sometimes she does a full feeding. There's really no way to tell what she'll do. I do give her a chance to go back to sleep since she doesn't usually cry, just chats and sometimes fusses, but I usually end up getting her. I don't think there's a magic number where they suddenly don't need it. What if it's a growth spurt, what if she didn't quite get enough during the day?
