Child free comment of the day
I was speaking to a former coworker who called me. I would always tell this woman that I am not having kids and she would say "oh you just wait..yes you are.. blah blah blah." This person has 1 kid who she had in her late 30s after being married for 10 years- she even admitted to me once that she never wanted kids and even alluded that her husband convinced her to have kids.
Anyway so she tells me that she heard that one of my good friends in the office had a baby and I told her yes, this person did and I'm happy for her. Then she told me that she thought to herself "Marianne must really be feeling pressure now." So I tell her that No, we are not feeling pressure and just enjoyed our trip to Bermuda and would like to keep things that way. So she says "Believe me, it is coming. People will make so many comments and put pressure on you and eventually you will give in."
Really? That's why people have kids- they give in due to comments from others? This is also the same person who told me that you have to have kids to have someone to leave your $$ to when you die. And this is also the same person who once warned me that if I don't have kids, my husband will trick me into having them by "getting me drunk." (I told her that oral contraceptives still work when you are drunk, or there would be lots of accidents happening). Due to her comment about my husband "tricking me" alot of us at work speculated that her husband did that to her.

Wow, she definitely crossed some boundaries in that conversation. That would have not ended well if I was on the other line lol You handled yourself wonderfully.

Re: Child free comment of the day
I always say, "Stay true to yourself despite what everyone else is doing." So no...I'm not having kids because of what others are doing or telling me or what "society" thinks either.
And if my DH were so "evil"as to "trick" me to have kids...there is no way in hell I would've married him in the first place. We made sure we were on the same page about kids (or in our case no kids) from day one.
She sounds like a winner!

That is not the reason people have kids, and if it is then shame on them

this is ridiculous!!!!!!!! obviously she has issues with this. i would ignore what she has to say completely and move on...it would bother me for about 5 minutes but you handles the situation well. this woman sounds like she is unhappy because she was madew to have a child she did not want
