airport security
i just came back from a weekend away and on my way home the airport had the new advanced imaging technology screeners (instead of the usual metal detectors). I told them i was pregnant and requested a pat down - which instead they just had me walk through the metal detector that was closed off).
I am flying again Thursday and know that my returning airport has the new screeners too...just wondering if you ladies would go through it or request the pat down.
im traveling with my boss so i dont want to seem like a pain, and i know they say they are safe, but its just that they are SO new it worries me

Go through the metal detector. I despise strangers touching me though, I'd rather go through a metal detector sporadically than deal with that. I would not go through the advance screening machine. They don't let you go through when you are holding your baby in your arms.

I'd go through the metal detectors. I would not do the full body scan, though. I'd request a pat down instead.
Traveling with your boss or not, you have to put your health and the health of your baby first. Plus, it only takes an extra couple of minutes. It's not a big deal.

I had the same thing happen last year and I told them I was pregnant and went through the regular metal detector.

If you're visibly pregnant they will tell you to go through the regular metal detectors. If you're not showing I would just let them know you're pregnant and prefer to go through the regular metal detector. I would not go through that advanced screening machine. If they give you a hard time get the pat down but I don't think it will come to that.

Flying out of Charlotte 2 weeks ago they had the imagine machine. I told them I was pregnant and asked to be pat down. They just had me wait a little while for a female agent. I woudln't go through the special machine. A regualar metal detector yes; but not the imaging one.

i just went away last week...on the way there the body scan broke so no issue, just regular metal detector.
On the way home they only had the body scans so I asked for the pat down...no issues and only took an extra 2 mins

Since becoming pregnant, I always say no to the body scan. Instead they put me through the metal detector.

I wouldn't do the whole body scan. Metal detector is fine. If the choice is the full body scan machine or a pat down, I'd do a pat down.

i tried to protest against going through the full body scanner but the TSA agent told me that it was not harmful and that there would be more radiation exposure during my acutal flight.. so i just went through.

ITA. Metal detector is fine, but I would and I have said no to the full body scanner. No one should give you a hard time about it. If anyone tries to convince you the full body scan is safe, just tell them again that you're not comfortable going through it. I had to do that, and it was fine. They called a female TSA agent over, and the pat down really was non-invasive.

Flew out of JFK to Barbados in May, I said no to the full body scanner, I had to wait a few minutes for a female agent to do a pat down.

I just traveled international and just went through the metal detector. I did do some research that said it wasnt harmful, but I feel they havent been out long enough for that study to really hold true long term. Just request a metal detector or the pat down
