do you have a middle name? are you giving your LO one?

DH doesnt have a middle name and doesnt think its necessary to give the twins middle names. I want to give them middle names yet i cant think of a persuasive enough argument to convince him past its good to have that extra name when youre yelling at them
I was just wondering how common are middle names.

I don't have one, but my first name is 2 names together.

i couldnt think of an argument of WHY to give a middle name either... everyone in my family has one, dh does as well - it was never a question for us as to whether or not our baby should have one; it's just kind of a given.
my middle name is elizabeth, after my dad's grandmother... and our dd's middle name will be rose - after dh's grandmother.

i have a middle name, as does my DH, as does everyone in my family, as does my DD. i've only known one person who doesn't have a middle name. never really thought anything of it! this baby will have a middle name, if it's a boy, the middle name will be after my father.

It is easier to protect from identity theft and fraud if they have a middle name. That is a good reason you could use with DH. It is not necessary, but also I have seen college applications where two people had the same name and the middle name distinguishes them from each other.

My middle name is Patricia and DH's middle name is Patrick so the baby's middle name will be Patrick. I know it sounds silly but I like that its kind of a family thing.

I have one, it's my grandmother's name. I won't be giving the same name to my LO if I have a girl but I will give her some middle name. If we havea boy he will get my grandfather's name as his middle name.

It can be nice though to use to incorporate family names that you don't want to use as first names.

I have one. DH has one. DD has one. DS will too.

My dad does not, nor does my uncle. I never asked why. His name is pretty common, though, especially on LI. It's never been a big deal nor hurt him in any way.

My brother has a middle name and there's someone else on LI with his exact name (yes, all 3). But that person has a different birth date.

I don't think it's a big deal. I also hate my middle name and chose to drop it when I got married. It's still on some of my IDs, though. But I don't tell anyone it and I never use it. I think middle names for the sake of having them are pointless. If they sound nice or mean something to the parent, then I think they're fine.

dh and I have middle names.... ds's middle name is same as dh's middle which is FIL's first name........

I think its kinda nice to script sign your name with the middle initial...

I didn't have one until I changes my name after I got married and moved my maiden name to my middle name. DH has one...DD has one.

both me and dh have one. this baby will have one. For us it works, and carrie on tradition. In the jewish faith, we name after the deceased so my little one if its a girl will have a middle name from my grandmother, and if a boy from my dad. Use that as a reason? good luck.

I did have a middle name. When I got married I dropped it though. I don't see anything wrong with not giving one. Our LO will have one.

I don't have a middle name - I was born in Israel and it's just not something that's really done there.

I don't really care if LO has a middle name or not - as you said, it's only used when they're in trouble but since DH wants to give Baby a middle name, i see no problem with that too.

Rather than him asking "why have one", maybe you should ask your husband "why not?"

I have a middle name, DH doesn't. I think a middle name helps to distinguish them from other people that may have the same name, especially if the name is common. I have a fairly common Irish last name so I would like to give our DS a middle name.

I have one, as does everyone I know. I can't see any reason NOT to give one, it actually seems a bit boring to me. I would feel ripped off if I didn't get to give my kids middle names. I think they make a name flow (at least if the names go together that is) and can help distinguish between two different say "John Smiths".

Also, we're Catholic and it's always been imperative in my family that a baby be given a saint's name. So if you wanted to name your baby something trendy that isn't associated with a saint you could always have the saint's name be the middle name. Not sure if this applies to you at all though.

DH and I do not have middle names but our siblings on both sides all have! strange how we didnt get any...LOL

we plan on giving our middle names.

If the middle name will be something meaningful like a relative's name or religious reasons then i think that's a good reason your DH might give in to?

we're giving LO a middle name since DH and I could not agree on a name. So since i'm carrying the baby she will be named my name and DH's name will be her middle name
