Rocking newborn to sleep at night

When did you stop rocking your baby to sleep at night? DD2 is 7 weeks old and will fall asleep on her own all during the day. At night she is very restless and I end up rocking her for a while to get her to sleep. I don't want to start this habit as DD1 was never like this and I can't imagine doing this for a long time. I know you can't spoil a newborn and I can't let her CIO so I will continue this rocking for a bit but I hope it doesn't last!

We never rocked her to sleep in our arms. We always put her to sleep awake. The thing that I think helped is that she slept in the rock and play. So, we would put her in there and lay in the bed next to her and rock it for a while. Not neccessarily until she fell asleep but until she was relaxed. At first, we had to return a few times to rock her again. Eventually, no rocking.

Rocking newborn to sleep at night

We stopped probably right around that age- 1.5-2 months. We would rock until they were drowsy, then put them down. Now, they both go to sleep on their own ans we put them to bed wide awake.

My DD is 2 and I still rock her. Not until she falls asleep but we read a bit, then we sit on the glider and rock for about 5 minutes then put her in her crib and she says "goodnight mom". She doesn't "need" me to rock her and will sometimes just go into her bed and go to sleep. I'm not worried since i've never met an 18 year old that still needs to be rocked to sleep! Chat Icon Wanted to add that I enjoy the time together too!! :)

Re: Rocking newborn to sleep at night

DS1 I rocked to sleep until he was 16m old. But honestly I never tried nor had any desire not to. I worked and it was such a nice quiet time for us.

DS2 I rocked to sleep until 7m. He was a bad sleeper and finally I had enough and let him CIO.
