Suffolk OBGYN

Does anyone use Suffolk OBGYN? Particularly the Port Jeff location?

I go to Dr. Marshak but I heard that you never know which doctor you're gonna get on delivery day. Is that true? I don't know if I like that- especially since there are so many of them in the practice.

I used to see dr marshak but switched when I moved.

With any big practice you will not know who will deliver you. You also risk it with a solo. Usually solo will have someone that covers in an emergency or vacations.

I used her as well. I didn't like that they were such a big practice, so I asked my cousin who is a nurse at st. charles, and she recommended someone else. Since changing Dr's I realized Suffolk OB and that partictular Dr., are pretty much horrible! I never knew the difference since it was the only place I ever went, but i wouldn't change my dr for anything now! I would suggest switching... i can recommend mine if you'd like

Suffolk OBGYN

It's not so much that I have to have my doctor on delivery day, but I would like to go to the same doctor regularly for all of my appointments, and would at least like him/her to TRY to be there. Which doctor do you go to now? I just need someone affiliated with St. Charles and who takes my insurance but I can check those things.

Thanks for the input!!

I went to them up until about 17 weeks but I really didn't like how I always ended up with appointments with different doctors and I didn't like not knowing who I woul get for delivery. I switched to a new dr and im so much happier.

I go to Dr erhart and Dr. Tufano's office. They are on 112 in Port jeff. You would deliver at st. charles. You can request to see one dr. during your pregnancy, or you can see both incase the one is busy when you deliver. But at least it's only 2 rather than many! I highly recommend them!! you will not be dissapointed!

a friend of mine just delivered her second baby with them, I text her asking how the Dr was, and she text me back with... "love, love, love" This was the day of her delivery

Re: Suffolk OBGYN

I used to go to the Port Jeff office ~ I have been to a bunch of the dr's there ~ my favorite was Dr. Lograno (if you don't mind a man) When you are preggo they want you to see various Dr's because you never know when you are going to go into labor (that is what I was told when I first started going there) and your Dr might not be working @ the hospital that day ~ it turned out that I had Dr. Lograno deliver me since I needed a c-section and scheduled it the day he was at the hospital.

I did see a couple of different Dr.'s and all were great ~ I loved Strittmatter, San Roman, (there was a lady dr I saw can't remember her name ~ she was not my favorite) I am a one Dr kind of person so once I found Lograno I stayed with him.

My girlfriend goes to Petraco (for years in there Smithtown office)

Thanks ladies! So funny that you mentioned dr. Erhart/Tufano because I just noticed while researching doctors that they had excellent reviews on vitals.com. I went to Suffolk obgyn twice for general appointments and really wasnt that impressed. I think I will be much happier with a smaller practice. I think I'm gonna call them tomorrow.

Re: Suffolk OBGYN

one of the dr's there is gerry san roman... his brother, gus san roman, is also an ob/gyn in port jeff station in a MUCH smaller practice and they are affiliated with st charles. i'd highly recommend them if you're looking for a smaller practice. he, and his nurse practioner/midwife michele mayer are AMAZING.
it IS true that with a big practice like that, you're taking your chances with who you get when you deliver.

Re: Suffolk OBGYN

I have been a patient at Suffolk OB for 11yrs and honestly, I love them. They were amazing throughout my pregnancy and while I saw a few different doctors I primarily saw Dr Petraco because I really loved him. He did end up delivering my DD too. I personally don't feel there are any bad doctors there, I think some are better than others but none are bad.

I have been to smaller practices but I found it was harder getting appts and the doctor tended to not spend as much time with you. I think there are benefits to a larger practice. It all depends on what you are looking for. I have been happy with my doctors at Suffolk OB, I wouldn't ever change.

ETA - You don't HAVE to see different doctors at all of your OB appts. Like I said, I stuck with Petraco 90% of the time because I liked him a lot. They didn't care who I scheduled with as long as they had availability.

I have to agree with you. I used them also and didn't have a problrm. I was very happy with all of them. I did see a couple Drs but that didn't bother me. If you wanted to you could schedule your appt with the same dr as long as they had availability.

Re: Suffolk OBGYN

Suffolk OB is a big practice and you never know who you are going to have to deliver you. That can be true with most practices but I never really liked it there. I went to a few doctors had ok treatment, then found out that I had severe complications with my pregnancy. When they first called me i was sooo shocked and I didn't have anything to ask. they told me to call back and I anyone of them would have a chat with me since they all had a meeting the night before and every doctor in there was made aware of my condition. Which I thought was good. Until I went to call back the next day to speak with someone about the millions of questions that arose in my mind. All that I could get through to was a nurse, who eventually told me that they are not allowed to speak with me and to go find another doctor, of which they gave me some rec's.
From my personal experience I feel that as a practice they are horrible and all worried about the bottom line.
Since then i switched doctors(obviously) and found that the way I was treated there and the care that I got was sub par. i would definitly look for someplace else.
As someone else said. Dr. San Roman in port Jeff also delivers in st. charles. I did see him briefly and he was wonderful, but I had to switch to dr's that deliver in SB because of the medical issues.

Re: Suffolk OBGYN

I used them for years but when I was pregnant with DD at 38 (almost 39) and did not want an internal sono at my first apt. they were not very understanding. Did the doblar and could not find heart beat and the doc told me WELL this is why we want to do the internal. (I had a miscarriage a few years before and was just being super cautious) I switched to stonybrook midwives and LOVED everyone! Still go for my annuals. PS they always have a Doc at hospital for any emergencies. HIGHLY recommend them. Got the best care and was respected on my choices and not pushed when I declined some proceedures. (Amnio etc)
