Feeling clueless about Intoducing new foods?

My twins went for their 8 month checkup yesterday and the doctor said I should add eggs to their diet 2x's per day. My DS has his two bottom teeth, but my DD has none. My mom is telling me not to feed them it yet, because of egg allergies. How would you make the egg, so they won't choke.

Also, the doctor said they can have American cheese. What type of foods would you feed them this young?

I really feel clueless. TIA!

If you're worried about allergies, just use egg yolk. Scramble it and break it up into tiny pieces. Have your DC had any table foods yet?

I wouldn't worry about your DD not having teeth. Babies don't need teeth to eat. They gum their food. DS didn't cut his first tooth until 13.5 months. He was fully on table food by 10.5 months and could pretty much eat anything with just his gums.

You can try things that melt in their mouth like puffs and yogurt melts. You can even break the puffs in half at first if they don't quite get how to chew. Try small soft pieces of bread, ripe bananas, avocado, pastina, etc.

Thank you so much!!!! They haven't tried any table food yet. I'm going to try feeding them some egg yolk with maybe pastina today. I've been giving them puffs and Cheerios in those net teether things, because I'm so scared of them choking. Thanks again for the info.

Babies don't need teeth to eat. Most of us chew with our molars, and babies don't have those yet. Their gums and saliva are really strong. If you're worried, stick to soft foods: sweet potatoes, bananas, peas, etc.

I introduced egg at 9 months. DD loved it. I used the three day rule and had no problems.

JMO, but American cheese is basically oil and food coloring. Try cheddar, swiss, mozzarella...

I'm TOTALLY with you on the "feeling clueless" in this department. I don't know what is wrong with me that I can't wrap my head around this! I think most of it is that I am NOT a daily cooker and it's pretty overwhelming to have to start thinking about cooking each day. My DH is looking forward to it, though. lol.

As for the egg... isn't part of the egg white BOUND to get onto the yolk if you separate it while the egg is raw?

At 8 months you can give DC fruits, veggies, pasta, scrambled eggs (yolk only if you are worried about allergies), beans, yogurt....even meats. DS was a late teether but had no problem mashing up meats with his gums. I just cut everything into tiny pieces.

www.wholesomebabyfood.com is a great resource, I recommend checking it out!
