maternity dress sizing?

If you buy a maternity dress halfway through your pregnancy and it fits great with some room to grow, is there a good chance it will still fit towards the end of your pregnancy?

Basically, I bought a maternity dress today and the tag said to buy my prepregnancy size. So I got a Medium, which said it was for sizes 8-10 prepregnancy. It fits great, but I'm only 23 weeks. I'm wondering does the whole choose your prepregnancy size thing work even towards the end of pregnancy? I was thinking of wearing this dress for my shower which is two months away. I'll be around 32 weeks. I was going to get the dress in a large so I could grow into it, but it really looked huge on me. It said it was for sizes 12-14, which would normally be way too big for me.

Sorry if this question doesn't make sense! I originally planned to wait until much closer to my shower to buy a dress, but I saw this dress today and really liked it. I think I may end up leaving the tags on it until it gets closer so I can return it if I get too big for it. I'm just hoping it will still fit by then.

Re: maternity dress sizing?

I had my shower at 32 weeks, I got my dress about 2 weeks before the party and I got my pre-pregnancy size of Small. At 23 weeks I popped but wasnt huge. By 32 weeks I was def a lot bigger but still fit in a small. I had a party to go to at 37 weeks and wore my shower dress (none of these people saw me in it lol) and it was a lil tight on my belly. Like if it was a dress I just bought I would have gone up a size...

It also depends on the designer. I bought a dress from motherhood maternity at about 23 weeks in a size small, it doesnt fit at all now and hasnt fit since I wad about 30 weeks... My shower dress had a more generous fit.

How far along will you be for your shower? What designer makes the dress?

I say if you have the option to return it buy the bigger size just in case. Every woman carries differently and gains weight differently...

Thanks for sharing! The dress actually is Motherhood Maternity, but I tried it on again and it definitely has some room for growth. I could probably even fit into a size small now so maybe medium is actually one size up for me. I think I'll take my chances with the medium since the large was just so so big on me.

It's just so frustrating buying maternity clothes in general since I have no idea how soon I'll outgrow it all!

Re: maternity dress sizing?

I know! Especially with dresses. I honestly didnt grow out of anything but the dresses. Even my cotton dresses which are great for this weather from Old Navy held up perfectly.

Im all belly and all my pants, jeans, shorts, shirts still fit. Im 38 weeks. So I think it depends how you carry and how tight the cut of the shirts are. Only like 1 shirt doesnt fit and mostly its because its satin and has no give. So dont worry what ypu get now should fit all the way through. Try to get things with stretch and not overly tight and it should last. I bought everything in my pre pregnancy size and did ok.

And fyi Old navy and the gap have great maternity clothes. Especially ON. They always go on sale and the fit is fantastic. Love their t shirts and shorts.

agree iwth above. All my clothes that i bought at 4 months still fit. im now 35 weeks. I am all belly as well, and nothing else has gotten bigger, so i actually have room in most of my clothes- especially in the hipsand legs.. and i bought my prepregnancy size.
