Question about morning sickness (updated)

At what point would you or did you ask your Ob for a prescription? I will be 8 weeks tomorrow and around 6 weeks m/s.....well all day sickness hit me. I am vomiting at least 4-5 times a day and eating has become a chore. I don't know if it's bad enough to bring it to the doc or not though. But I am beyond miserable.

****Update*****

Thank you girls so much!!! The doc prescribed zofran and I feel like a new person!!!! I can keep food down, drink more water, and have energy to function!! This is a miracle pill! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Question about morning sickness

NOW. If its not ever going away and you cant function normally you should ask. Youre going to get dehydrated.

Re: Question about morning sickness

I am not a pill popper. I wouldn't take meds unless all the home remedies didn't work and/or the doc was concerned about dehydration. Talk to your doc and see what they suggest for you.

Feel better! My m/s let up at about 11 weeks - I know it sucks. Chat Icon

Re: Question about morning sickness

When I couldn't function anymore is when I asked for the prescription. My m/s my first pregnancy started at 9.5 weeks and ended very abruptly at 14 weeks. I threw up once a day and was FINE the entire day after. And I thought that was bad HA HA HA HA HA HA (I was so naive...)

This pregnancy, my m/s started at 5.5 weeks. I threw up over and over and over every day or was nauseous constantly (and yet I was eating too... figures I couldn't even lose weight ha). I couldn't function. I couldn't take care of my toddler. I couldn't sleep I was so sick.

At my first appointment at 7.5 weeks, I told my OB and he called in the zofran. I cut the pills in half and would take a half a pill first thing in the morning or overnight when I woke up feeling like I was going to throw up. They would work within about 30 minutes so I could just lay in bed concentrating on not throwing up until it worked. I found that taking one half a pill in the morning was enough to keep me functioning! Days I didn't take it, I'd throw up multiple times and it was debilitating.

It finally subsided around 20 weeks, but I'm 23 weeks now and it's actually getting bad again. But I haven't taken any zofran since 19 weeks.

My OB assured me it's completely safe and a lot safer than being sick all the time.

That's just my story this time, but I hope it helps.

Re: Question about morning sickness

I held off thinking the morning sickness was going to eventually end, and it never did. I would call now, and see what your doctor says.

Feel better!

My Dr. said the same thing. I tried EVERYTHING but nothing worked. I needed to function. I work FT and have a toddler so it was definitely necessary. I took Zofran and it helped so much.

Lemonade/lemon slices in hot water, ginger tea, ginger chews (it's a taffy-like consistency).

Re: Question about morning sickness

I was miserable for MONTHS during my first pregnancy and my OB refised to give me a prescriiption until 6 1/2 months.

This time around, I mentioned at 8 weeks that I had morning sickness and she (same OB) immediately wrote me a prescription before I could even finish my sentence! Strange.....
