Charlie Horse

OMG!!!!!!!!!! At 5am this morning my poor calf decided to experience pain I have never felt before. I wanted to sream and cry so bad. DH said I mad sounds that he never heard me make. He felt so bad for me. It went away about a minute later but I really don't want to feel that pain again.

Funny thing is I stretched my calfs before I went to sleep last night.

Got any tips for me?

TIA

Re: Charlie Horse

Ugh! I feel your pain (literally!). This happens to me nearly nightly. I was told the same about eating a banana every day. I do, but it still happens.

Re: Charlie Horse

ugh i HATE charlie horses, they are so painful!! you can google a list of potassium rich foods, it doesn't have to be fruit (esp if you are trying to stay away from sugar w/ GD). good luck!

Re: Charlie Horse

Thanks ladies.

I did a google search on veggies. I already eat most of them. I just can't eat as much as i did in the past. I'm allowed a cup of veggies for lunch and dinner. I'm going to find out if I can up that when I see the nutirtionist on Friday. Funny how this started happening when I went on the GD diet

Re: Charlie Horse

Potassium helps. But the thing that helps best is to get out of bed right away when it happens and stand on it. I know it sounds like you couldn't possibly do that, but as SOON as you stand on it, it'll go away. Works every single time for me!

If it happens again, put your foot flat on the floor. That will help it go away. Chat Icon

When it happens to me I flex my foot back toes toward my shin. It helps loosen it! Ouch they hurt!!

Re: Charlie Horse

IMO they hurt much worse than contractions!!

I heard that tonic water helps but it is so gross! I mix mine with seltzer.

Re: Charlie Horse

If you can have apple juice or bananas, try coconut water like Cocovita (not sure of its sugar content) but its supposed to be the new "super drink" and full of potassium!

Get this stuff!

Third Trimester Tea

With DD, I only got them in 3rd trimester, and this was only the ONLY thing that helped. I ate a lot of bananas, but would still get them. A cup of this everyday kept them away like nothing else could.
the taste is not bad either!

I think you posted this on a different post a few weeks back and I remembered it when I had a bad charlie horse in the middle of the night and immediately hopped out of bed, and it WORKED! I meant to do a search and find who posted it to say thank you, so THANK YOU! Chat Icon

I get them too and they are the worst! Magnesium also helps. I take a magnesium supplement to help with them (as per my dr.) Bonus: magnesium also helps in preventing headaches.

Re: Charlie Horse

BANANA'S!!! And when it happens put your foot flat down on the floor and it will go away immediately. I hadn't had banana's in a while and got charlie horse's 2 days in a row, next day banana, no CH since.

eta: sorry, just saw you can't have banana's, they say staying super hydrated will help too.
