Pounding Heart
Pounding heart - is this normal during pregnancy?
Almost every night when I lay/lounge on the couch, my heart starts to pound. I try to relax, take deep breaths, etc, but it doesn't seem to help. It eventually goes away, but this is happening on a regular basis. It never happens during the day or any other time other than when I'm supposedly relaxing!
I keep meaning to call my OB to ask, but I never think about it during the day!

I agree with this. I have palpitations (mine feel like skipped beats though) and the OB keeps telling me that as long as it's not interfering with my daily activities, it's fine. I would double check with your dr. though.

Re: Pounding Heart
I've asked about it at my last two appointments. I never had this with my first but had it most of the first trimester with my second now. He said it's totally normal and not to worry about it. It's still disconcerting.

Re: Pounding Heart
its most likely normal. I had bad palpitations around 25w that lasted all day for a few days straight. I was so concerned that I went to my ob and cardiologist. All is fine with my heart. They told me its because your heart is pumping much more blood for you and the baby. They finally stopped but when lay down at night I sometimes get the hard pounding for a few seconds and then it stops. Im 30w5d.

Re: Pounding Heart
I've had it on and off since 3 days before my BFP. It's pretty common.

Re: Pounding Heart
I would ask the OB , the is a chance they might send you to a cardiologist, the pgnancy can really affect your heart (sometimes not in good ways) so you need to make sure everything is ok if it's happening so much. I developed heart issues during my first pregnancy so I am being watched closely this time around. I suffer from palpitations and was given a medication I have to take if they get really bad during pregnancy , haven't needed it so far, thank god. So anyway, please do talk to your OB

Re: Pounding Heart
I had heart palpitations with my first pregnancy, and they had me on a heart monitor for a weekend, but everything turned out normal. It was the baby laying on some nerve that triggered it. The nerve being crushed also made me have high blood pressure.
I would definitely have it checked out, and who knows, it could be nothing! Good Luck!

Re: Pounding Heart
I had the same problem, but I'm on Synthroid so just to make sure I called my endo and had her check my levels and she said they're fine, so it was just a pregnancy related palpitations

Re: Pounding Heart
Thanks, everyone! I will definitely call my OB. Of course when I actually thought to call today, the office had already closed!

Re: Pounding Heart
I do every once in a while, it's mild and never lasts for long. I will mention at my next appt, but I think your heart is just is just working harder. I'm not overly concerned about it
