Doppler question.
Are the Doppler heart rates accurate. I found the babies on eiher side and hear both heartbeats but the heart rates fluctuate all over the place. Like from 88 to 160 to 120 to 135 to 140 -all over the place!!!
I know it won't be as accurate as a dr sono. but I'm just wondering if it means anything.

Re: Doppler question.
My OB says they're not accurate on the doppler at all. He actually won't even look at what it says they are on there with the ones he has in the office.

Re: Doppler question.
I think it can pick up and lose heartbeats easily. I find it to be very accurate when the baby stays still and it registers within 10 bpm for at least 45 seconds or so. The sono machine was 168 at 6 weeks and 174 at 9 and on the doppler its always between 160 and 170 so I think it's pretty accurate. If its dropping down that low it means it's losing the heartbeat for a second and something between 70-120 could be yours. I go by the sounds more than the number. It's such a distinct sound.

Re: Doppler question.
Ok Thanks! good to know. I really just got it to hear them. I figure it will come in handy when there is no room in there for them to move and I don't feel them. I can ease my mine and hear them. Plus it's fun.

Re: Doppler question.
I don't think it's mine because it has to be RIGHT on mine to register. The babies are so low down away from my heart. And I put it on one side on my belly and get one then the other and get the other but in between and in eiher side there is nothing. It has to be right on it to register. Mine was more accurate at 140 (I had just run upstairs from getting it in the mail).

Re: Doppler question.
It's pretty typical to hear your heartbeat on the fetal doppler. Its the blood flowing through the arteries in the area. When using the my doppler I will also keep my finger on my neck to take my pulse.
So my guess is that the heartbeat that runs about 80 is you.

But its not that one reading is 120, another is 88... It's jumping every second 120, 88, 165, 140, 99, 200, 120 all while I hear the heartbeats uninterupted. I'm not sure its so accurate. I'll ask the Dr. on thurs. It's one of the cheap $60 ones too.
