car seat question

I have an almost three year old who was in the middle facing forward.( we have a Toyota sequia-big car) I am due with #2 anyday. I originally thought to put the infant carrier facing back in the middle (like we did with dd#1) and put older daughter behind the Passenger facing forward.
I've been reading and saw
Someone write that the older child who is facing forward should stay in the middle and infant facing back behind the driver.
I am looking for what is the safest for both girls.
Thanks

Re: car seat question

I am not totally sure, but I heard that it differs by car. You might want to check your manual if you have it somewhere. Or google your specific car. If that fails, maybe go into your local Toyota dealership and ask someone? Or is that just crazy? LOL.

Re: car seat question

I have a Honda Pilot and I was recently wondering the same thing. I also read that it is best to keep the older child in the middle since they are forward facing. I am leaning toward keeping DS also almost 3 in the middle and putting the infant seat behind the driver.

Re: car seat question

I would think rear facing in middle and forward behind seat for safety. I just think middle forward facing has more of a chance of pitching baby forward in an accident. IMO

Re: car seat question

Gabbie, when I went to have my carseat installed and inspected two weeks ago, Carseat Safety Chris said he would never install the infant seat behind the driver and put the older child elsewhere.

We put baby's seat behind passenger and toddler FF behind driver. If I had space, I would have put baby in the middle but since that wasn't an option, I didn't ask if that would be ok with toddler behind driver.

That would be my thinking too.

Just curious as to why it matters which seat the baby is behind? Did he give a reasoning as to why being behind the passanger seat is better then being behind the driver seat?

.
Maybe baby behind pass allows u to reach baby that may need more attention than toddler? IDK?

Re: car seat question

The infant carrier doesn't really go behind the driver's seat because the shape of the carseat can make it difficult to position the driver's seat to your liking. It may force you to sit more forward and/or upright.

Re: car seat question

I went to get my car seat inspected and made sure it was put in correctly. You are supposed to have the infant on passanger side facing rear.

Re: car seat question

strange, I had mine installed by the inspector also. Based on my car manual, the carseat is actually positioned in the middle and part of the driver's side. I am going to review this again because I really don't care for it behind the driver's side and thought the middle was much safer. Problem was the seat was moved more than an inch when positioned in the middle.
