Yes.
My mom kept cards she received at her baby shower and a lot of them refer to me as Matthew or Elizabeth.
Also in my baby book, my mom wrote down her and my dad's reactions to when I was born and they both apparently exclaimed It's a Girl!

They told my mom I was a boy... However, I was not.  I think they recently had come out with sonograms and they werent very good.

I was born in Dec of 81 and my mother claims she never had a sonogram that they didn't exist (she has a terrible memory) my DH was born in May 82 and my MIL had plenty of sonos (not sure if they could tell sex then though)...so unless they invented sonos in that 5 month span my mom is wrong.
Suffice to say she was team green with me and my brother

i was one of the first amnios at mt sinai, so my parents knew. but it was the first time the docs delivering had a patient who knew, so they all shouted it's a girl, and then said, oh, but you knew that. lol

Myself, my two sisters and all my 8 cousins who were born in the late 70s - early 90s were team green. Even my first two nephews born in '98 and '00 were team green.

I was definitely team green.
The only one of my siblings that had a gender-revealing sonogram was my youngest brother - late 1980s by then. And my mom & dad still didn't tell anyone they knew it was a boy. Mom says the clarity of the pictures weren't as good then as they are nowadays and they had several friends who were told the wrong sex, so they didn't truly believe it until he was born.

I think it is quite possible she is right. That is about the time they became readily available and technology is expensive at first, so her obgyn might not have done them yet. I don't think my mom had one done for me. eta: they were invented in the 1960s but were not used commonly until the late 70/early 80s.

Yes. There was no other option when I was born. There were sonograms but they weren't routinely used like they are today.

There were sono's when i was born in 83 my parents didn't find out because they weren't always correct. My cousin is 7 months older then me and they told her mom she was a boy and got all boy stuff for her shower and surprise it was a girl!
